I parked up by the train station and brought my bike. I rode 3.5 miles downhill to the Ripley Falls, where I had dropped off my friend. I chained my bike there. We went in where the Appalachian trail crosses the road. The cliff has multiple areas with has some great views. Even saw the train pass down in the notch. The section down from Mt. Jackson is not as easy as described. We ended up helping some people that were fooled by the moderate rating and had a hard time getting down. The rocky trail is what made it more difficult for some. For avid hikers, it’s not difficult, but there are easier trails listed as moderate.

Nice trail.. thankful for the map on the app because was a little hard to find the beginning.
My family is inexperienced hikers but this was great for us and our puppy.

It is a good day hike (doable for beginners) and I will rate it on a moderate side of difficult as some sections get steep...especially after the fork when you go towards Mt Jackson. Views from the top of Mt Jackson are spectacular as you see 4 other peaks (Pierce, Eisenhower, Monroe and Washington) in presidential range. Also towards west you can see Tom, Field and Willey. Beyond that you can see Twins mountains and Mt Lafayette in the very far. Mt. Webster's views are equally spectacular though not 360 deg. There is nice waterfall while coming down from Mt Webster to rest and enjoy. Do not forget to take small detours to Elephant' head and Bugle Cliff. View are well worth it.

Fun family trip with just the right mix of fun and challenge. Some steep and rocky parts but nothing too tough. I saw people of all ages - from young families with parents carrying babies in packs, to teens and seniors. Nice brook running up the side of the trail at some parts. Nice view st the summit. Can be a bit busy - not the trail you want if you prefer solitude. Well marked. Done with a 10 and 12 yr old, and 4 month old puppy. Nice canopy of trees to shine away the elements.

View was amazing however I don’t think I’d rate this as moderate !! Challenging ...steep ...scaling large boulders at least 1/3 of the way up ...

Great little trail. Relatively flat and short. Would be great for family with younger children. The trail head is hard to find. Inquire at the railroad station.

was a nice hike up today. under the canopy of the trees, air temp/humidity not bad for our group of 5 to make it in about an hour. the kids did fine, though one thought it was more steep than she expected. a great day

Took the trail behind the visitor center to the left. Hiked up 1.6 miles expecting to reach the top. At the end of the 1.6 miles there was another Mt Williard sign for .5 or .6 miles. With sunset coming I did not have the time for the extra leg. This website either needs better directions to the trailhead or to update the hike the 4.4 miles.

Definitely a family friendly hike on a well marked, gently sloping trail. Easy for even young children or seniors to climb. Beautiful views of the notch from the top.

Started out at 10 am on a 75 degree day. we were glad for the coolness of the forest as this was only our second 4000 footer. the scramble up to Jackson is a bit hairy, but definately worth the effort. the 360 views were incredible. We decided to hit Webster summit and I will say definately need your hiking boots as its a rocky, root strewn trail. We're not seasoned hikers so it took us all of 7.5 hours with a 30 min. lunch and a couple breaks.

Great hike and view at top. 2 streams at beginning to cross and ledges at top that need to be careful with little ones.

Hot summer day but beautiful stream crossings and views. Dipped my handkerchief in the water to cool off every once in awhile. Moderate hike for sure, highly recommend. Went up Jackson and down Webster.

Great, reasonably easy hike, fairly short but challenging enough to feel as if you still accomplished something, and you got a great view at the top! Took us about and hour each way taking our time. Quick warning, however, we went after two days of somewhat raining weather. These are very wet and muddy trails after rain. A couple of places we had to walk through shallow, moving creeks. We had our waterproof hiking shoes so the mud and water didn’t bother us, but saw many people with sneakers struggling to get through the creeks and mud on slippery rocks. This is not a sneaker trail!

Enjoyed the trail and the top has beautiful views. We are intermediate hikers and this is a moderate hike. Myself, my husband and daughter who is 17 did the hike and it took about 2 hours including breaks. Sharper incline at the bottom of the trail but levels off near the top. It’s great that there is a bathroom at the start of the trail!

Short hike but the view is excellent for the amount of work you put in. We squeezed this in as we were headed back home to MA, and it was perfect for the time crunch. We’re relatively fast hikers, and it took us about 40, 45 minutes up and a half hour down. Once we got to the top, the view was beautiful.

Beautiful view at the end!

Hiked with my 6 and 10 year old. I did not find this trail difficult and neither did either of my children. I personally would not rate it as moderate.
I think the differences of level of difficulty in the reviews is all perspective. The trail was extremely busy and I'm willing to bet most of the people we encountered are not regular hikers. I could see how this trail would be harder for someone who does not hike on a regular basis. If you find yourself on the trails weekly this is an easy and short hike.

Regardless of your experience level, age, or shape this is a completely doable hike with a great payoff at the top. The views are worth the time and effort.

Trailhead begins behind the AMC store/ train station across the tracks in Crawford Notch. There are several other trailheads near by so the whole area is extremely busy and parking spills out on to 302.

Don't pass by the waterfall about half mile up on the right.

We hiked up the Crawford path to the summit and back. We ran into a trail crew on the way up, they were rebuilding the mid section of the trail ( great job folks thanks ). No views today due to the thick fog.

Great hike....not as easy as some make it sound. But I will tell you this, it was worth all the pain and suffering when I walked out and saw that view. Absolutely amazing

Short, relatively easy hike with a spectacular view from the top. Can be crowded but plenty of space to sit and enjoy the view. Saw a moose on 302 right before the AMC center as I was driving to get to this trailhead.

Unreal views!

Hiked July 14, 2018 via Crawford path out and back to Mount Pierce (didn’t do loop with hut). Heard the hut is cool though and has food. Took us about 4 hours. 6.5 miles. Well kept trail - we saw a lot of people working on the path. Trail was a little wet/moist with some water and moss. Coming down was a little tricky on the rocks, especially when wet. Gibbs waterfall was worth checking out. Very pretty hike but didn’t get many views because cloudy. We saw a good amount of people on the trail. Parking lot right near trail right off the highway.

easy hour or so hike.. moderate rock/scramble in the beginning that graduates off closer to summit.. good size crowd up there but plenty of room to feel private and have a bite .. the view is breathtaking

This hike is worth every step along the way! I am not in the best shape, but managed to hike up with some breaks in between. The trail is easy to follow, has a steady incline, and isn't too technical. The view at the top is amazing, with plenty of space to stop and chill out for a while. The trail was moderately trafficked (plenty of people of all ages and dogs along the trail) but had some periods of time alone to listen to the birds and check out the waterfalls along the way (Centennial Pool).
