Moderate hike with cool boulders and great views.

There’re are few views to beat the one from the summit.

Difficult to find, nothing much to speak of for hiking. There's a snowmobile trail that's a little nicer, but I wouldn't waste time on this.

great hike. easy steady climb with no real steep sections until a short burst at the very end. was windy and foggy at top on the day i went but worth the climb.

Fairly easy hike, but made for a long day. Took about six hours of out and back. Great 360 degree views.

Beautiful trail, well marked, and what awesome views from the peak. It is a must to hit north sugarloaf while here, as the views are very well matched and an amazing benefit to the hike. The river at the beginning is very nice also, just don't drop your phone in it! (oops)

At the hut & lookout, Great layer views of the Mountains thru the valley. The trail stays gradual for quite some time & then steep the last few miles.

I enjoyed both mountains. Definitely steep in spots but great views for the effort required. Make sure that when you go to North Sugarloaf (right at the split) you see the true end of the trail summit. When you come out on top, the instinct is to go to the ledge down to the right (which is awesome, too- go there)! However, when you come out on top, take a few steps to the right and look for the trail marker on the ground to your right. You will basically do a 180 turn to continue on the trail to a much more open view! Other people I talked to on the trail missed it. Middle Sugarloaf was a bit harder and steeper- there's a steep-ish staircase with no railings near the top of Middle Sugarloaf, just FYI. This is no problem for some people, everyone I saw had no problem with it, but I get shaky with heights and went down it backward, like a ladder for part of it. Whatever it takes!

I would rate this trail as the easy side of moderate. A great 1/2 day hike with excellent views including all the way to Mt. Washington & views of the Cog Railway. Great for kids or as an introductory hike for a beginner. I started out early and stopped for my morning coffee break on North Sugarloaf. I then headed over to Middle Sugarloaf and after a couple hours exploring had an early lunch before heading back down. Just walk around the top of Middle Sugarloaf to be treated to MANY spectacular views!

Total of 4 miles, well marked yellow blazes. Did both Middle trail (left at the fork) and then North (right). Views on Middle trail were superior and more room at the summit for lunching, viewing or meditating. Steep climbing last third of the hike, wear shoes with traction. Do not recommend going when wet. Large running brook early in hike. Restrooms can be found in campgrounds before the trailhead. Excellent moderate hike, will be perfect during foliage season.

Fantastic hike, especially for those looking to complete something in a few hours. The person who recommended the trail described it as a "great bang for your buck" -- I would have to agree. Amazing views at the top following an approximate 1 hour hike up. There are a few areas that are fairly strenuous, but nothing unmanageable.

To get there, take Zealand Road exit off of Route 302 and drive about a mile up (past campsites 1 & 2) and you will find the parking area.

Great trail. Have done for many years with the kids (both 4 & 6 now). Takes about an hour at a comfortable pace with the kiddos hiking it on their own. Great views of both the Franconia Notch and Mount Washington Valley!

love love love this hike and the river

from the Garfield junction it is roughly .06 to the AMC hut. from the but it's a mile to the summit of Gale head. from the other side it's .08 to the summit of South twin. the trail up South twin is steep and Rocky and the trail up Gale head is a relatively short and easy going trail with no views. dogs are welcome to be off leash!

Definitely tested my newbie stamina!! Way fun. Camped overnight at Guyout.

Great reward for such little effort. The views from the top of Middle Sugarloaf are spectacular. Some of the best views that I've seen yet.

When I say little effort it is do to being such a short hike. There are some steep areas but they don't last long.

I would highly recommend this hike :)

October 14, 2015 - my first major hike with my husband, first 4,000 footer and first time staying in an AMC Hut. Holy struggle bus! It was the last night of the season when we went and we hiked from autumn into WINTER. It was snowing with a crazy windchill when we finally arrived at the top. When we went, the trail had recently been redirected and the terrain was rough! Big boulder staircase and you turn a corner and whoop! There's another one! I said to my husband at one delirious point, "I think Jesus himself is going to be waiting for us at the top of this mountain!"

Croo was awesome, the adventure was awesome, the only reason I give this a 3-star is because it's a brutal hike for not a ton of payoff in the view department. The summit marker is very anticlimactic - smack in the middle of a grove of trees! Bottom line, I'm glad that I did it, not sure I would purposefully take this route again.

Not too strenuous and views were spectacular! The bugs were a bit annoying on July 5 but the crowds were non existent. We had both summits to ourselves.

Some steep areas that are strenuous at times. Switchbacks and stairs make this trail an adventure and the views make it worth it.

Worth the climb awesome views, trail was busy on July 4th and not too much water on the trail after two days of rain prior to the hike!

Easy quick hike with a fantastic 360 view!!!!!!
