Beautiful, but very rough road to trailhead

We were the only ones on the trail, thankfully, because it was such a steep climb we had to keep stopping for breaks. The top of the climb was a little disappointing b/c it stopped on a ridge line and not at the peak. Well, we went off the trail and climbed through a lot of sage brush to reach the peak. Coming down was a whole lot harder :) I propose we construct a zip line. I wouldn’t argue if you made this hike *Hard*.

We had this trail completely to ourselves (except for the grasshopper/crickets). It was all up on the way out with some significant grade incline. We had our dogs and they enjoyed the few creek crossings to get a drink and cool their feet. Trail was well-marked. We gave this 4 stars because it was difficult walking on the loose gravel at the significant grade. Did see one snake on the path near the top.

Thank you to whoever maintains the trail signs here, they are fantastic. It’s a beautiful trail in June lots of wildflowers and views. Strongly recommend this trail when in Winnemucca.

From our campsite in Water Canyon the trail heads off to the overlook. Easy hike with a reward at the end with the vast view of the Winnemucca Valley.

After experiencing the closed off mine shaft trail, I can say that the views are great. The trail itself is well maintained and easy to hike on. Though, If you'd like to get an amazing view of the nearby town and surrounding area, I would recommend climbing the rest of the mountain when you get to the end of the trail; you'll get an amazing view while doing so.

This is a nice and easy trail with little elevation gain. Perfect for kids! For the short mileage, you are rewarded with great views of the Winnemucca Valley. You can see the South Jackson Range, Winnemucca mountain, and the Santa Rosa Range from here. This is also an awesome spot to sit and watch the sunset. There are two benches at the end, along with an information sign about Water Canyon.

I wouldn't describe this trail as "hard" unless you are going up to the closed off mine shaft, as that has a stretch that is a bit difficult. There are two main trails here and it forks off pretty early. To the right is the trail that goes to the closed off mine shaft and has some decent views. To the left is, in my opinion, a better hike with a more gradual elevation climb and some shade for the summertime. I have yet to reach the end (hopefully soon!). Once I have done all the trails here, I will map them for AllTrails.

This is a hiking/mountain biking trail. It is well defined and moderate. Offers great views of the Sonoma range as well as the city of Winnemucca.
