Did the trial in mid July. Very fun course, challenging at times depending on what you’re driving but very scenic. I have a 2016 DCSB Tacoma with 33” bfg’s and a locking rear differential. At some parts it definitely sped up the trail with the diff lock but I think an expert ended person could do it without. 4wd a must, I’d say about 12” of ground clearance is recommended.

So hard. I in no way completed the hike. I did 3 miles in and 3 miles out. Kicked my butt.

We enjoyed the trail but it started pouring rain on us and thundering so we ended up freezing but we would recommend it. :)

An incredibly beautiful hike! The wildflowers are blooming, waterfall flowing, and snow is gone. The first section of the hike to the waterfalls is very easy! The second section is quite challenging. A lot of elevation gain with steep hills. I recommend hiking poles. There are sections with loose rock and dirt. Well worth it when you get to the top! Give yourself time to acclimate to the high elevation. And btw the bathrooms at the parking are closed!

A challenge but the beauty is worth the climb

This is marked as hard because of the steep climb, but at least there is no scrabbling! Nice work out for the legs and lungs, and worth the climb! A new favorite short hike. I will definitely come back to this trail after trying others.

Surprisingly nice little walk through the Damonte Ranch Wetlands. This easy 3 mile paved trail is a great spot for birding. Also, the best playground I've found in town would make it a great place to bring the kiddos.

Great hike. When hiking in the fall be sure to wear a light jacket. The weather on top is delightfully chilly.

We've done this twice on bikes and would do it again any day or night. Perfect views of lake mead and the tunnels are great. At the end there a a restroom, water fountain, and picnic table with gazebo. Perfect first date destination.

beautiful scenery. We saw 2 antelope in the road that refused to move and later We spotted a big horn sheep right off the road. We checked out several trails that day. Great for kids. Don't go midday summer, too hot.

short trail easy for kids and pets. Was easy to get lost. It's right off the road.

easy short hike for kids and pets to see lots of amazing petroglyphs. The sand is hot for pets, be careful. We saw 4 big horn sheep!

HORRIBLE! Worst idea to hike up with a 40lbs of packing. Will not return unless told otherwise

Holy cow. You gotta WORK for this one! Made it to the arch, but wasn't able to go any further due to a thunderstorm that closed in on us fast as we traversed up the crack below the arch. Just enough time to get up, take a few pics, and get back down. Started pouring just after we climbed back out of the final chute on the return. Will definitely be coming back to summit.... Two things: 1- I've got a stock Ford F150 with BFG KO2 and made it 2 miles into Rocky Gap Road without a problem. Making it to the TH with factory clearance could be an issue, but it's possible to take off at LEAST 4-5 miles round trip in a stock vehicle, driving carefully. 2- the more "technical" portions of the hike (last half mile) feel really sketchy - worse than they really are. If you're uncomfortable outside of the crack on the excited face, you can crab your way up/down the crack slowly and safely. Total stats today: 12.1M, 3,562 elevation gain (parked truck 2mi. approx up Rocky Gap, to the arch - not summit), and 6h27m r/t. Good luck!

beautiful waterfall at the end. very hard to find the entrance. We have done this two years in a row and its one of our fav spots. We spent the whole day down there. There was no waterfall this year, but still a pool and gorgeous scenery. We did this with two kids, ages 5 and 7. They did great.

I did this trail again today, and didn't pass even one other person! It took me 7 hours up and back, and that was only stopping for a few photos at the lake- no breaks! I was surprised that there is still a little water in the lake, and will post photos. The trail is in decent shape at the moment, no mud or snow, but this is a pretty strenuous hike, I must admit! One that I will likely do annually, but pushes my limits to do more often. There were many deer in the upper elevations, but thankfully no bears today!

Definitely felt out of the city with amazing views, took the South route but didn’t make it to the peak due to the trail being washed out.

Most of trail easy to traverse. Near Castle Rock have to scramble up to get views of Lake Tahoe

Hot in July but great views

We went in early November and the aspen trees were on point! A nice hike for the kiddos too.

Been a few years since I hiked this trail. It was my first hike in a long time so I found out real quick that I was out of shape (even though I was 7% body fat). I went home exhausted and burnt from the lack of shade and poor preparation, but it was the beginning of a hiking/climbing journey. Since then, I’ve hiked and climbed all over the country!

It’s for the most part all up I have done this one several times always great but it feels like it never ends

Loved it, the view from the summit is spectacular. You go through the same switchbacks as you do for Raintree (the Raintree is a short side detour from this trail) and it gets steep as you approach the summit.

I will second the poster who questioned the 6.2 miles.

easy peasy but a wonderful walk around the lake. will take all our out of town visitors here.

Fragrant! The wild flowers on the trail are in bloom and smells amazing! Take the hikers only track to the right when facing the sign. It's the trail that would lead directly to the waterfalls. Then, it gets more arduous from there because of the elevation! If you're not worried about the altitude, then by all means...."Charge" the mountain!

Moderate hike with a lot of solid uphill through some switchbacks. Wife and I are out of shape and the altitude and uphill required stops at the switchbacks. The last run up the falls gets into a good incline but there are steps and good trail to follow.

Payoff is a nice waterfall and some spectacular views. Totally worth the effort.

Trail is impossible to miss and easy to follow. There are some spots through the switchbacks where the trail looks eroded away and you have to be careful. Most of it looks to be caused by folks making a shortcut down the hill.

This is one of my favorite trails when I want to get in a short hike.

Starts off nice and easy stroll for about 3 miles then you hit the awesome waterfall! After that is all up hill from there. me and my wife are just getting into hiking and it was by far the most challenging hike we have done so far but well worth it for the view of Truckee, Reno, Sparks, Carson City and of course Lake Tahoe. It took us about 5 hours at a decent walking pace. We stopped at the waterfall for about 10 mins and 30 mins at the summit. Lots of flowers along the way, a few creeks to skip across and even ran into a hungry marmot and chipmunks that greeted up at the summit. Weather was about 75 all day and only a little windy towards the summit. Defiantly bring lots of water, hiking shoes and a stick or poles if you have them. Enjoy!
