Beautiful view (I went mid-August) regardless of the weather. Doesn’t get much better than a day with no clouds and high 70 degree weather. Takes about 20 minutes at a slow walk to get to a view of south lake, and then a 15-20 minute slow walk without an incline that looks over Carnelian Bay. Great little walk for families and people who want a great selfie photo.

Love this hike! Nice for an evening stroll with the pup. Second half is quite a bit steeper than the first but at only 1.5 mi round trip, it took about a half hour.

This is an easy hike, not moderate. It's a good beginner trail or if you just want to do something easy; and see the Vegas views at the top.

Nice easy hike. Good for people who are trail runners. The trail can have high traffic, since it's a popular one.

Easy to start off.

Great trail leads right to the lake!!!

The trailhead is easy to miss as it's basically a pull off area right next to the road. The beginning of the trail is well marked and easy to follow. A sign says it's a 1.5 mile in and out trail. I'm not sure where the trail actually ends. It went from wide enough for two people to more and more narrow. Eventually I think we were blazing our own trail. The well defined portion of the trail was long enough that you could still get a nice walk in without having to make your own trail. We walked all the way to the base of the mountain. Despite the lack of defined trail, I would certainly give this trail again.

Great hike. moderately challenging, as I had to rest three or four times at the switchbacks. pack plenty of water. amazing view at the end.

Great trail. Some inclines, but not too gravelly or potentially muddy. Lots of flats to counter the inclines on the ascent. Not as "Mountain View Scenic" as Mary Jane or Trail Canyon, but nice for those who like a look at the flora. Hundreds of beautiful pine cones on our hike.

very steep. takes you right down to the lake. gorgeous views. I would not take my dogs as it is very steep but our daughter (9) did great. take lots of water and sunscreen. a picnic at the bottom is fun or just hop in the lake. there are two protected coves on either side of the trail.

This is probably the most beautiful scenery I've ever experienced on a hike. The trail is just hard enough to get a great work out in without being too difficult. I went after work and made it to Lamoille lake in about 75 minutes.. The only downside was all the mosquitos at the lake. The fish were jumping so much it looked like the lake was boiling! I didn't stay long and made it back to my car just before sunset. I will definitely do this one again!

Gorgeous views from a well maintained trail. Lots of switchback make this a relatively easy climb. The waterfall is definitely a highlight of the hike!

great hiking trail....

We love this hike. It is pretty easy, quick and has great views.

It is definitely a good cardio workout but it's absolutely stunning all the way up!

Great trail from someone from the Midwest. a lot of different options to choose from once you start. Moderate elevation changes which lead to a pretty nice view of downtown Reno. Very enjoyable.

In the top 2 hikes of any I've done. I'm from the Midwest so this was certainly a change. Great, moderately strenuous hike up. Then a nice rest at the cold waterfall and a fairly easy hike back down.

*lovely as it gets near reno.
*last mile into falls area is wonderfully shaded and beautiful.
* bring lots and lots of water for your four legged companions in the summer.
*loved following the creek all along the way.

Great hike! We did this hike a month ago. prior to all the smoke. Amazing views. lots of switchbacks. Once you get to the ridgeline, that is a great place for a break prior to the final straight up push to the summit.

South loop is a great trail. We love to backpack this hike as there is many sites along the way. This is a great beginner backpacking trip, I highly suggest it. Final push to the summit is the hardest part of the trail. Beautiful views!

Lovely hike gorgeous views

I think I found this by accident haha.. I was hiking towards mjf and I stopped at a tan chopped down tree to rest a second. Instead of heading up right I went straight leftish and found a dried up creek and rocks to climb, and I had so much fun. No one was on the trail and I felt kinda lost but it was so much fun. I'd do it again

I haven't done this in a couple of years.... Went last week after work and it was great. Lots of uphill.. Good people on the trail. It was tough but I went again this week and seemed much easier so I think I paced myself better. Like I said, lots of uphill!

When you get to the trail point you can go left to cave cove or go right (go right) On the right just up the hill are some beautiful top of mountain views! The cave cove is a more exercise uphill hike with not too much to see. When you get to the hollowed out tree with water you've arrived. It's up right above that.

This hike up and down isnt too long but both weeks left my legs sore and my abs tight!

this trail is an annual ritual for me. it helps me acclimatize to the elevation for longer hikes later in the week

Very easy and also very short. Good for a quick change in scenery if you head north or south on the east side of Lake Tahoe and want to make a quick stop.

Nice hike. The Trail could be better marked, especially in the beginning. Lots of photo ops.

The beginning of the trail is very bad with a bunch of loose gravel and trash. And yes that is part of the trail bc there is no other way to get to the decent single track that starts the ascent. It ruined the experience for me. Apart from that I did like the single track and it provided some good exercise. Not sure I’d recommend this as a trail run though.

Steep in quite a few sections but beautiful all the way up. Still a little smokey so the views didn’t extend as far as they could’ve.

Gorgeous hike. There are now portapotties at the parking lot but they are pretty gross. Bring your own TP.
Nice lollipop if you take the alternate trail to Relay Peak Road and loop around that way back to the trailhead. Really nice hike through wildflower meadow. There is a small pond for a dip/wade - the dogs we passed were loving it.

The main castle rock hike was closed so we did this instead. It was perfect for my younger teen. The view at the end is amazing, you can see the entire lake. Once you get to the rock, make your way around the back to the right and then climb around to the lake side - go up the rock just a little- it is easier than it looks and the reward is well worth it.
