We were not able to complete this trail since we can in late April and there was still too much snow. That being said, I am willing to make the drive (and looking forward to it) to come back out and experience it fully. We live about five+ hours away, but the views were spectacular.

Probably one of the greatest days of my life was spent on this "trail." There is a great trail to Griswold lake, and it is decently marked after that, and quite a but of scrambling. Super fun hike, but unless you are in phenomenal shape, you should probably plan on having it be a two day trip.

worth the trip.

First time hike for my family. Great trail and great places to see the creek.

you won’t regret this hike.

Ok. So we drove this but however you take this trail just Do It. Incredible beauty. Leaves changing. Coolest rock faces. What a NV gem!!

Beautiful views, well marked trail. Takes about 3 hours out and back if you are enjoying the view and taking pictures.

This trail is NOT HARD I would call it easy to moderate. It goes by very quickly and there are two little ponds before you get to Lamoille Lake. We saw a bullsnake trying to swallow a big toad. The lake is beautiful, and the trail is pretty popular.

Cool views. Busy in the afternoon. Saw a man walking with a pack and double-barreled shotgun- that was weird.
Unfortunately, tons of erosion from people getting off trail and also cutting switchbacks.
Agree with others- this trail is not hard- on the easier side of moderate (mainly because I’m not accustomed to altitude).

Beautiful trees to walk through on this hike. There are a few switchbacks but it isn't too bad. Lamoille Lake is absolutely breathtaking. This also seems to be a choice spot for people to jump off the rocks into the lake. It is a chilly plunge but that doesn't seem to stop them. You will hike right passed the Dollar Lakes to get to this one. I would highly recommend it.

Island Lake trail is all up hill on the face of the mountain. We got up to the trail head around 9am and but the time we were half way up the trail the sun was baking us nicely. The lakes was a cool refreshing reward at the end. I would definitely do this hike again even of it is hot because the views are totally worth it.

Beautiful hike and lake (which, in July, was warm enough to swim in). Also note that snowcocks, birds as big as turkeys originally from Himalayas, live around this lake area. We didn’t see any but were told that people can usually catch a glimpse of them in the morning.

Def worth the hike! Your breath will be stolen when you come across this lake after climbing through the rocky barren liberty pass. We also continued to Favre lake but it was a disappointment and we didn’t think it was worth the extra hiking time.

We went on this hike in late July at the end of the day and it was absolutely breathtaking. It feels like you’ve stepped into a magical place, where fairy’s may flutter, with the all waterfalls and secret little alcoves.

This is probably the most beautiful scenery I've ever experienced on a hike. The trail is just hard enough to get a great work out in without being too difficult. I went after work and made it to Lamoille lake in about 75 minutes.. The only downside was all the mosquitos at the lake. The fish were jumping so much it looked like the lake was boiling! I didn't stay long and made it back to my car just before sunset. I will definitely do this one again!

Gorgeous views from a well maintained trail. Lots of switchback make this a relatively easy climb. The waterfall is definitely a highlight of the hike!

Love my backyard.

Gorgeous scenery, great hike! Downloaded this track for offline viewing, came in handy providing even more detail than our topo map at times. The trail currently is little different than this track on the approach to Favre Lake... we followed the track only to have to bushwhack... looks like they've rerouted the trail. Follow the current trail signs out on the trail and you'll find Favre no problem. Flowers were in blooms everywhere, saw goats, buck & doe, grouse, cows, pika, golden eagles, tons of butterflies and bees. Trail is overgrown somewhat in areas, but always easy to follow. And yep, the stretch without water is up and down nearly 4 peaks, so hydrate well and be ready for a good workout!

Hard to think of alpine lakes and meadows in Nevada but so similar to the Southern Alps. Refreshing after the torrid August desert and mornings are free of traffic which eventually builds up mid morning with friendly families and pets on leash. An alternative to the ubiquitous and obnoxious casino scene.

Pretty easy. We started around 5 pm and made it up and back before dark. there were A LOT of knats up top. The trail just weaves back and forth up the mountain for a while, but you walk through millions of colorful flowers, then the top of the mountain has some rocks and pine trees. We'll do it again one morning.

From my experience, the best route to Thomas Peak is to generally bear NW from the lake toward the chute between the north and west ridges. Note that the area north of the lake is full of seeps and so probably the best route is to start on the east side of the lake and head north, skirting east of the boggy area until you're above it, then traversing westerly up the slope. The trickiest part is finding a safe route to the very top of the ridge. I found a small chute (see uploaded track). Note that the scramble from Island Lake to Thomas Peak is very strenuous and pretty exposed. Also, it would be great if HTNF or a good samaritan would cairn a route to Thomas Peak, to reduce damage to the alpine meadows.

Great hike. There were a few steep spots but not too bad. Trail is easily seen.

Hiked it yesterday. Beautiful every turn and not very traveled especially once over the pass. Trail conditions very great. a must hike if you head to the Ruby Mtns.

Beautiful trail. Recommend going mid July to see the wildflowers

Amazing wildflowers this time of year (mid-July)! Fairly easy hike, would be a great family day trip. There are lots of switchbacks so you hardly even notice the elevation gain!

Good hike today with a lot of colors and water

Great trail. Fun day out with the kids. Wouldn’t class it as difficult.
