Gorgeous hike. There are now portapotties at the parking lot but they are pretty gross. Bring your own TP.
Nice lollipop if you take the alternate trail to Relay Peak Road and loop around that way back to the trailhead. Really nice hike through wildflower meadow. There is a small pond for a dip/wade - the dogs we passed were loving it.

Gorgeous. I went for a trail run and was happy with how runnable it was. Well marked

Great hike, fantastic views and very few other people!

Really great if youre looking for a challenge for a beginner hiker!

Nice hike. Easy for the most part. I did this hike on 8/4. it was very smoky that morning but by the time I got up to the start of the hike which was just under 9000 feet the smoke wasn’t really affecting me but it did affect the views.
It does start to incline shortly after the waterfall but no steep parts. its a pretty gradual incline even the switchbacks aren’t very steep. only difficulty really is elevation if your not used to it.
it was super windy at the top. about a half mile before I got to the summit the wind gusts were so strong they nearly knocked me off my feet a few times.
but once you get to the summit there are some rocks you can sit behind which blanket from the wind. if there wasn’t so much smoke it would’ve been a beautiful view. total hike took just under four hours that was with the rest stops to take pictures and lunch at the summit.

What a great trail. It starts off with a bit of a steep incline but if you can hang in there it is well worth it. When you get to a grouping of rocks on the right (I think about 1.5 miles in you will want to take a little path off the the left. It takes you to Monkey Rock and some of the best views of Lake Tahoe. My husband and I are over 60 wand managed it well but you definitely want to be in decent shape

Easy hike to waterfall but not so easy to the summit, beautiful and worth it!

Excellent trail! Easy start to warmup and then kicks up at waterfall around 2.5 mile mark. Last mile is a beast but very rewarding.

It’s very smokey now. Air is dirty and views are limited. Hopefully better very soon.

Good hike - well maintained.

Nice view of lake at points.

This description is misleading. We decided to do the hike the opposite direction, starting at Thomas Creek Trailhead. The elevation gain was nearly 5000’. Apparently All Trails doesn’t count decent as part of their elevation figures. The mileage is off as well. It’s over 20 miles long. We also threw in the section up to the top of Mt. Rose for a total elevation gain of 6000’ and total distance of 23 miles. The elevation gain is pretty gradual. Views of the Mt. Rose backcountry are amazing.

definitely more easy than moderate. the 5 miles really just fly by because the trail is flat and there are lots of things to look at. the waterfall is beautiful! once you reach it, you can continue on to mt rose (another 5 miles total) or turn around and head back. there are a lot of people on the trail, but i wouldn't call it crowded--if you like your solitude i would recommend starting around 7 or 8am; if you like saying hi to people on the trail then start later. there was a nice breeze so we didn't notice the heat even though we got a later start.

Awesome trail. The meadows are amazing. We had a gallon and a half of water between three and it was enough, but we didn't go all the way to the top.

Love this trail. Started at 7:00 am. On the way down, there were a lot of other hikers making their way up. Next time it will be up on Mt. Rose.

We hiked to and above the waterfall. The wildflowers were pretty, especially in the meadow trail near the waterfall (direction of Mt. Rose Summit). Lots of hiking options from the trailhead. The hike was easy/moderate. The terrain was chaparral, some trees, but not a forested area.

Great hike overall. The first 3.5ish miles are pretty level and pleasant to hike along. It's a little after the waterfall that the incline begins and then it's a mostly uphill hike the rest of the way. The incline never gets too bad though. Views from the top are great, even with the smoke from the fires.
Bring lots of water. There's lots of parking at the trailhead, just be mindful that the restrooms are closed (for maintenance).

This hike involves waterfalls, wildflowers, and butterflies. There are beautiful views the entire walk. Restrooms are not available at the trailhead. We needed more water than we normally do on this sunny July day. We saw others that were out of water as well.

I do almost daily the lower loop (about 3 miles) - easy relaxing and quiet hike. Family friendly, dog friendly. Just a great 1 hour long walk for fresh air, quiet and exercise!

Great hike with beautiful wildflowers and butterflies. It took about 4.5 hours with 30 min up on the summit (plus 1.5mile detour to explore).
And restrooms at trailhead are closed, so plan accordingly :)

Love this route. Spend many a lunch hour on this trail.

The last mile to the summit was the hardest and the winds near the top were relentless, but the view was amazing at the top and so was the view along the whole trail. Lots of wildflowers and butterflies. The waterfall is a great destination for someone who doesn't want to hike all the way to the summit. Make sure to hike to the top of the waterfall for a great view too. The restrooms at the trailhead were closed.

Hiked this trail solo in 12 days. Easier than the JMT, but with the heavy snow year in 2017, navigation was a bit challenging in the snow. Resupplied once by Echó Lake Summit. This trail is a great introduction to thru-hiking.

We did the short version, about 3-4 miles round trip. We walked up to “monkey point” where there’s a rock that looks like a gorilla. The views were absolutely beautiful and we found tons of great lookout points with mountain and lake views. AllTrails rates this one as moderate .. we joked that it was Colorado Easy, Milwaukee Extreme. If hiking is not a regular thing for you, you’ll feel those inclines, but it was worth every step!

Great peaceful hike... wild flowers in full bloom. The trip to the top was moderate but definitely doable. Bring water. Nice breeze at the top. The view was amazing!

Easy trail with waterfall at end. Beautiful meadow with flowers.

Spectacular - may all of your switchbacks lead to amazing views! ~ 5 hours in and out while spending 30 minutes at the summit and occasional resting. Hit the trailhead around 8:30am - starting a little earlier may have been better. Summit was perfect - nice wind, felt like 70’s..

Spectacular - may all of your switchbacks lead to amazing views!

Beautiful hike. Plenty of viewing areas all along the way. Definitely need extra water and snacks. Waterfall is a great treat at the beginning of the hike. The rest of the hike to the summit gradually became more difficult, definitely worth going to the top. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!
