i'm in love with this trail. came in mid October, beautiful Aspen trees changing color, slow and steady climb up with short steep down to lake so after long uphill climb the first part of the return was challenging but then the rest of the 10 mile hike was all downhill with a little bit of flat so easy to power through. cant wait to do again next fall!

Great hike! We took a few breaks to catch our breath since we weren’t used to the elevation, but overall not bad at all. Definitely recommend!

A nice day out. Easy trail, except the kick up at the start and finish- our legs felt that. Otherwise an easy trail. Just under 6 hrs including a 15 minutes lunch stop. 28.6 kms all up for us. We parked our RV down Aspen Way- the trail head was too rough and uneven for an RV. Highly recommend.

Great mellow trail. Beautiful in late October when the aspens are changing.

Will be back! Such a great sweet trail.cant wait to check out the lake in the summer for a swim after biking or hiking!

10-26-18. Beautiful hike (even according to my begrudging 13 year old). Amazing fall colors. Nice to have a restroom (well maintained, out house style) at Marlette, and real flushing restrooms at Spooner. Gradual uphill, not too many steep parts. We took the trail. Took us 5 hours. We hung out at Marlette for almost an hour for lunch, pictures, restroom break.

I hiked on October 13th, 2018. We just had it right for the treat! Breath taking fall colors and stunning views of Lake Tahoe. I think this is one of the best views I have ever seen.

It just doesn’t get in prettier. I will do this spiritual walk Springs and falls for many more years to come!!!

Trail was clearly marked wide and easy to walk, great for the whole family! Beautiful view of The lake. There is a rock climb at the top if you want the best views, well worth the effort!!

First & only trail run in Lake Tahoe and boy did I pick a good one. The first mile is nice little warm up and then it's awn! Get ready for a 1K hill climb for the next 3 miles going from 7200' to 8150'. The view of Marlette Lake at the top is very rewarding and picturesque. When you get to this lake stop to take it in and then get back on the trail with a sharp dog-leg turn on the left. After 6 miles you get to the damn and the trailhead sign for The Flume. Go straight past this sign, curve around to wooden bridge and then the trail spits you out the other side with breathtaking views of Lake Tahoe. Here's where you can get some speed (if you want), but I had to stop a couple times to get some pics. The view is just too good to only look down at the trail the whole time. 8.5 miles in is where they're doing construction on landslide repair (which is supposed to be done), but they let everyone pass once it was clear. At 10.4 miles you come to a junction. Go straight down to arrive at the bike shop & shuttle. Here's where you can turn it on and really crank out some speed. I was hitting low-to-sub 5's and it's some good speed trail running. Stay to the left and keep going down all the way to the parking lot, but when you pass a sign on the left with a left dog-leg turn, STAY STRAIGHT. Don't take that turn. It spits you out about a mile North of the bike shop, which is where you can get a shuttle ride back to your car at Spooner. This turned my 13-mile run into 14 miles, but at least it was flat ;-)

Great trail with good hills, spectacular views, and some good speed work. For an even tougher challenge take the Marlette Lake trail about a mile in on your left to drop you into the trail around Marlet Lake. NOTE: they were doing logging work when I was there and the Spooner trail around Spooner Lake was closed, but the trail to The Flume and Marlette Lake is open. Also remember to have $10 cash for parking at Spooner Lake Campground and $16 for the shuttle ride, but you can use a card at the bike shop for the shuttle. You may want to confirm the shuttle ride too before going to ensure you actually have a ride back b/c that's not always guaranteed.

The views were worth the trek! 4 miles up hill is no joke, but by the end you forget all about it!

I just took the mountain bike path all the way up and it was worth it. Fall is all over this trail and it’s beautiful!! It was decently busy with both hikers and mountain bikers. It was a windy day so a bit cold especially at the lake. Took cover by some rocks and ate my lunch on the water and it was perfect! Not a stressful hike, but you get in a great workout. Will take the flume trail next time, I will definitely come back.

Took my pup out for a jaunt. Most of the trail was closed, but it was a pretty walk. Very loud in most places because of highway and helicopters. Trail not marked around the lake, but seems pretty clear at the start. Check the maps up front. Will be back to do surrounding trails!

We tried to hike a few places on the California side of Lake Tahoe but we couldn’t find parking. This rock and view made our day.

Went midweek and only saw a few people. Not too strenuous and a great early fall hike

Very smooth and well kept trails. Not too much elevation change, so it is an easy going trail.

Nice walk around the lake. Then go get breakfast in south lake.

Fun short walk around the like....perfect for mountain biking

Nice option for someone in good but not optimal shape. Pretty stretches, good variety, but lacked the spectacular vistas of other hikes in the area. Also, areas were very dusty. On the plus side, the mountain bikers had a separate parallel route, so the trail was very peaceful, though we did encounter a biker breaking the rules by taking the hiking trail. Boo. Marlette Lake was cold but not numbingly so and made for a refreshing swim. You can change in the bathroom by the peninsula. You leave the peace of the trail behind when you get to the lake because all the mountain bikers congregate on the little peninsula for lunch, but it’s lovely.

Such a beautiful and totally worth it hike. We went later in the day and didn’t pass too many people.
Bummer to pay $10 to park, but they do a great job with the trails and facilities.

Great Hike!!

* consistant water for the dogs.
* trail is only for hikers and equestrians. Road that parallels trail ( North Canyon Creek) allows mountain bikes- so trail was lovely and serene.
*purchase of the $10.00 parking pass to spooner lake allows free pass into Tahoe's Sand Harbor Beach Area, which is worth a visit (gorgeous).
* very, very pleasant hike.

amazing view from the top of Cave Rock!!! trail is easy except for climbing the rock at the end of the trail, but the view is well worth the climb!

Great trail for all levels. Being a loop, you can turn around at any time. We took the trail rather than the road, which is much nicer and well maintained. Road is nice too, just be aware of the mountain bikers.
