This one is a walk in the woods - a sweet little meandering trail that never gets too strenuous and offers scenic views of the Carson Valley below. The trail follows the curves of the canyon and was quite kid friendly once you get past the initial ascent. We saw several mountain bikers today, so be aware of this, especially with the frequent blind spots around switch backs.

This is a great little trail in an equally great location. Close to town, this one connects to many other hikes, such as Eagle Ridge and the Tahoe Rim Trail (if you’re up for some serious elevation gain). I don’t enjoy the parking for the trailhead, which requires you to walk along a road that borders private homes and property, but once you are on the trail you get beautiful views of the Carson Valley. We hiked it today with my four year old, and he did great, so personally I’d rate this one as easy! Beautiful colors and crisp fall weather at this time of year, but be prepared for early shadows and sunset on this trail since it right on the east facing side of the mountain.

Thanks to the previous reviewer that recommended going ckockwise on this loop trail. I am so glad we did! It was nice to start the trail with going up a steeper incline with a mellower decline. My knees thank you! This trail has many terrain features that keep the hike exciting. A few switchbacks, a ridge walk, several mild water crossings, a waterfall and some spectacular views of Genoa and Minden. The trail in late October was clear with a nice crispness in the air that made it feel like hiking in air conditioning. We saw a few mountain bikers some family day hikers, one trail runner and a total of five dogs throughout the loop. Although this may not be the most scenic trail of overlooking spectacular views, there is much to be appreciated for those willing to see the beauty in the changing leaves of fall and the smell and sounds of waterfall streams in the forest. It took approximately 3.5 hours to complete the loop with just a daypack and some trekking poles. We look forward to doing this trail again but connecting to the Tahoe Rim Trail for a total of 10 miles.

This was a wonderful hike!! Lots of switchbacks make it a moderate-easy hike and we gained a lot of elevation to get great views of Carson Valley. It is dog-friendly Not sure we found the falls... Trails were well marked but maybe they need to point out the falls. Followed the Lower Genoa Canyon Trail for a bit.

Can connectup with many trails. Gorgeous Genoa views.

So I did the loop, map days 9 miles but my Fitbit says 11. I did it counter clockwise. Trail is super well established. Didn’t feel like I got great payoff for views, mostly ruined but towns in the valley below. Hot and dusty but decent shade to rest in. I did NOT enjoy the switch back going down from the canyon- narrow and steep drop offs got my nerves up, but I made it. Waterfall was small. Loved all the sugar pines though!

Nice trail, steep at times and a lot of switch backs. Great views of the valley. For a novice MTB rider such as myself this is definitely a moderate trail.

April may be a bit early to hike this trail: still a lot of snow near the summit, but a fantastic hike nonetheless!

Great views. Fun little hike. Early morning seems best! Lightly trafficked

Exactly as described. Wonderful views! Well maintained trail. Great for the dogs.

Great views, easy hike that motivated me to turn it into a moderate run!

Really enjoyable on a cloudy day in May- not too hot. Not a dull trail, always changing and new things to see. Genoa saloon right on the way back!

Great hike above #Genoa. Excellent trail. Waterfall.

There is quite a bit of elevation gain with this hike so I would really say this is more towards moderate than easy. Very well maintained trail, although the end just blends into the Sierra Canyon trail so keep going if you want! You will probably run into mountain bikers and a few other hikers. Great views of the valley and the 2nd half is shaded but the trail overall can be a little warm in the summer months so go early.

Great trail for kids and d. Wonderful views of the valley .

Took my 6 month old for an adventure in my backpack. Encountered lots of snow on the northern facing slopes.

Great exercise on this trail especially when you start on the south end. Very beautiful trail! Waterfall. Great scenery of the Carson Valley as well.

This is a great trail for trail running or hiking with children. It mainly contours the mountain above Foothill Road and offers great views of the Carson Valley. My kids love running and playing on the trail because it is an undulating single track that goes in and out of trees. There is one creek crossing and a really neat little stand of trees that the trail weaves through. About 1.5 miles in the trail switchbacks up a ridgeline and it's pretty steep. After that, it's all downhill if you do the loop to the Sierra Canyon trailhead.

Lots of options in this area. This particular trail is better suited for hiking and mountain bikes. Runners might have difficulty with the small rocks. Beautiful with good amount of shade and great views.

This trail was great! I'm not sure if I'd label it as easy, only due to the steep incline; however, it was still enjoyable nonetheless. The view is phenomenal!
