This trail is definitely a bit sketchy during the summer. In addition to it already being very hot in the mornings and there is absolutely no shade, the trail itself is poorly marked. It starts off as a well-maintained, wide dirt path, but after a few back and forths I realized that the path was not taking me up the hill. Upon closer inspection of the trail map, the actual trail to the summit is a narrow, rocky, barely-there trail that cuts through the brush, AKA "Prime Rattlesnake Territory". Did not feel comfortable taking my dog through all that (off leash or on), so we cut this hike short. It may be better in the winter, but definitely use caution in the summer.

I hike this trail to the bottom of the waterfall and then up to the top of the waterfall at least 2 times a week. Love it!

Very easy flat trail, good for all ages.

Hiked from the entrance on Jacks Valley to the junction at the top, roughly 8 miles. I started a little late or I would had gone to the top, an additional 3.5 miles. My whole experience ended up being 16.5 miles and it was great! Once you pass the residences at the beginning it was beautiful. Definitely a must do and I will be doing again.

So beautiful and relatively secluded. Big payoff for a short hike- you can hang out at the beach (or the nude beach over the rocks haha) or climb around the rocks and hang out.

Great uphill rather tough. Beware if vehicles and horses. Great views

First 1.5 miles was steep but worth it for great views of Tahoe. Quite a few Mtn bikes

Beautiful beach, easy to get to.

nice trail of ~2 miles.

on Prison Hill Loop

Nice morning hike with the dogs. Several trail options in Carson City’s Prison Hill Recreation Area. We did the North Loop, which is a 3.8 mile trail that provides scenic views of Carson City on the west side of the loop and the Carson River on the east side. This trail is probably suitable year round as long as there is no snow on the ground. Probably best in spring and fall, but be aware there is no shade so probably best during the morning hours during the summer.

A nice 2 mike or so hike. The waterfall is really nice. It’s in a steep valley under tree cover. True shade and the spray make it cool and refreshing to see. The loop trail gives good views or Carson City. Decent elevation gain but never too steep. The trail almost touches the tree line and you can see some trees still with scars from and old fire.

We arrived at the parking lot around 7pm and walked to the Whales Beach for sunset. The view is awesome!

Great place to go when you don't have a lot of time and do want to enjoy great views of the lake.

Nice Little hike. My wife and I are in our mid-60's and we walked up to the falls and backtracked to the loop trail. The hike took about 70 minutes. It is worth the trip.

Wildflowers out today

Great walk along the shore of Lake Tahoe. Despite there being a lot of people around, we also saw a lot of birds (osprey, common merganser, white-headed woodpecker).

Some of the best hiking In Carson City.
Great 360 views
At least 5 trail heads to start from.
Best in non summer months

Nevada's trails are number one.

Park is still closed for the season as of 4/23 so parking is off road. Directions to the parking lot on this app is slightly short - keep going on 28 another 0.7 mile or so and you’ll see the park entrance on your left. Very nice views from east side of the lake.

A definite must in the early spring snow runoff. Easy access.

Short hike but I like to loop it around and take the old King’s Canyon Rd a bit on foot and then join the main waterfall big loop, turning it into about 5.5 miles. A bit of an incline up the old road and you’ll want to stay alert due to the 4 wheeling but it adds a nice workout to the otherwise short trail. The waterfalls are very nice, just stay out of the water, it’s the water source for Carson.

Nice little trail
