Beautiful morning at prison hill! Setting full moon and a magenta sunrise were perfect

Run to the left, not right. I got to take scenic route by going right. It is also harder to go uphill on the left, but at least it is easier to follow the trail/route.

A beautiful trail, and I love the history behind it. At the very end comes out to a lovely beach. Keep in mind the 2nd half is uphill on the way back and only partially shaded.

This is a pretty hike and a good workout. There is a small parking lot at the trail head. It is a steep, steady climb for 3 miles with a few vista spots of Lake Tahoe. We hiked but we passed a large number of descending mountain bikers. The trail is narrow, so you need to listen and be ready to move to the side quickly. Marlette Lake at the top is serene and pretty. There are some trails that you could make as a loop, but we started later in the day and only had enough light to do an up and back.

Went up about a mile and a half, turned around and came back down. Very little shade, good workout though.

Awesome little beach! We went today and there was 1 other person there and then just one couple we passed on the way back to the car. There’s parking on the shoulder for about 4-5 cars. We jumped in the lake - it was very cold but refreshing. Pretty steep on the way back up, but didn’t really need poles (although we had them).

My wife and I loved this hike. It’s a constant gradual decent to the beach which is nicely secluded.

a very well maintained dirt trail and easy to follow. there is one turn up by the top of the ridgeline that is very easy to miss. I only know I missed it because this app notified me. once I made it to the lake I kept going and followed marlette lake road to the marlette lake cabin chimney. the trail had a few spots with ice but all were easily passable. I only ever encountered bikers once I was on marlette lake road. on the descent from marlette I went off trail a couple times up to ridgelines in attempt to make get an unobstructed view of tahoe.

Pretty hike, up hill all the way to the lake but nice cushy sandy trail. The only bummer was that the recent wind storm knocked down all the leaves prematurely, so no fall colors :(

Beautiful hike. I'm so glad I took this spontaneous hike. It has a slight incline and it's narrow at some parts but it was a pretty easy hike. The waterfalls are gorgeous and the hike was worth it to see it.

Really steep if you park where AllTrails leads you! Slippery gravel/sand, wish we had our poles. As others mentioned it’s a nude beach, so may not be great for kids. There were some men doing naked yoga!

Awesome hike up to the top. Be careful not to miss the sharp turnoff to get to the flag. This is quite a challenging and very steep climb to the top, but well worth your time. Sunset over the city is incredible with all the fall colors right now.

This trail is great for walking, cycling, or trail running. However, it lacks the visual awe offered by some of the other nearby trails. It’s dog friendly, so obviously that’s a plus! Easily accessible parking && in my opinion would be a great trail to take your parents on. I’d be cautious with kids at the beginning of the trail, and to be honest I think it’d be a bit boring for them.

Beautiful hike down to the water, plenty of shade. Get there early to secure the best spot.

Great hike! Did it with 3 kids and a dog! There are some beautiful fall trees this time of year. Beautiful view of both lakes! It’s an uphill climb, totally worth it! Want to try it again in the summer.

Really beautiful hike with views of both lakes, even on a smoky day!

Very easy to follow path that leads to small isolated coves with beautiful colors. The hike is simple and fast enough. The bathing downstairs is just perfect even though the water is cool in this month of October. Our dog loved it!

More of a walk than a hike but lovely nonetheless. Saw some fall colors and falling leaves.

Unknown why this was listed as moderate, very easy trail. First bit up north by Carson is filled with trash but otherwise drive is an easy, pleasant, scenic run. Had to detour once to do a hill climb just to add some wheeling fun. Will be back to do more side trail exploring.

It says moderate, but this one definitely goes under easy, a slight elevation and narrow but easy. I would call it a walk more than a hike, but it's worth it. definitely a hidden gem out here in the high desert. Great for kids. It's like a little oasis pocket at the end.

I loved this trail. Wide and sandy path, short cuts, amazing beaches and summer house at the bottom. We took our two kids,9 and 12 years old- it was pretty successful! The hike back up with kids is a bit challenging but worth it :). We hiked in October- excellent fauna and butterflies everywhere. The yellow jackets are really intense but didn’t bother us (nearer the water)! Will do again
