Went for a ruck with Team RWB Omaha!
A great network of paved paths and nature trails. Plenty wide for opposing bike/jogger traffic. Lots of trees, but still sunny. Views overlook the Chalco Reservoir. Lots of parking throughout... restrooms just off the paths in the parking lots. Everybody on the trail was very friendly. A little bit of funky air as we passed the nearby sewage lagoon... but not too bad. If you take advantage of both the paved paths and nature trails, you could go forever! Oh, and check out the Natural Resource Center in the park.

good trail for running with dogs

I absolutely love this trail! I'm from South Carolina and I love to run it when I get out this way.

Nice trail!

Really not very well maintained from locust street to the platte river. Grass up to waist high in some areas. This area of the trail is supposed to be crushed rock. The rest of it is great.

Stretch along N. 144 has lots of road debris and not very safe due to being so close to the road. Other than that, nice trail if you want a paved trail.

Great trail for road running training! I love to go around the back side of the museum but the parks and views in town are fun as well!

Tried it for the first time today. Very nice with just the right amount of ups and downs for beginners. We will do this again!

A great trail. All concrete. Great for bicycling and other activities. Not much traffic. It goes both in town and out of town. We visited the Stuhr pioneer prairie museum on the way.

It's quaint has a nice lake. No tree or ground fluctuations, the path is paved. Nicely place trash and dog waste containers throughout. Dogs are allowed on leashes! Clean up after your pet so they don't ban them! VERY clean park and trail.

Very nice ride

I hiked the full loop of around the lake. (7.2 miles)
West side poses more of a challenge due to talker grass. East side of the lake is more geared toward day campers, trails more maintained. Over all Great Lake views and a good day hike .

Excellent, well-maintained trail in a scenic environment. There is a lot of variety here, with ups and downs, lots of trees and vegetation, plenty of open spaces and of course, the beautiful lake. This is a long walk that may be difficult for toddlers and I know my small dogs would never be able to make it the whole way around. The path is large enough that it is definitely wheelchair accessible. I went on a Friday morning at 10:30 am, so I did not experience a lot of traffic on the path. The bicyclists I encountered did a great job of announcing themselves. I will definitely do this again. It feels so secluded despite the fact that it is so close to the city.

We walk here all the time. It’s the best park in Omaha for a long walk. You will however see a lot of people here, so if you are looking for a secluded area you might want to go to a park outside of city limits. That being said we enjoy this park! You see deer, birds, turkeys, hear owls in the evening and there are also tons of mulberry trees in the summer months.

Standing Bear is one of my fav places in Omaha. I lived and worked close to this park for over 13 years and it’s a great place to go for a nice after work walk or run. I’ve never been where it’s been too crowded (such as Zorinsky) but it will get busier. The views are gorgeous, most people are friendly (a few bikers don’t announce their presence but most do). I’ve seen a great amount of deer, birds, snakes, flowers, and squirrels. Parts of the trail is open while others feel like you’re walking through a forest. My biggest issue is the section along 144th street. It is not paved and doesn’t feel very safe. I have walked it but usually turn around at that point. Also a nice park for picnics.

We walk here 4-5 times a week and seen Turkeys, geese, turtles, deer.....

I enjoyed this hike. The lake is really pretty. Lake trails can be pretty flat and boring, but this trail runs through forest and prairie and had some ups and downs. I appreciated going through different landscapes. I did find, as others said, that while the east side of the trail is well maintained, the west side is pretty overgrown. The trail gets pretty hard to make out. But I just followed the map on here to make sure I was going in the right direction, and that worked pretty well. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE BUG SPRAY AND WEAR A HAT. I go hiking a lot and bugs are obviously inevitable, but it was excessive here. Found five ticks on me when I got home, probably from walking through the very tall foliage on the west side of the trail. I think next time I would hike the east side up to highway 36 and just turn around and hike back the same way instead of doing the loop. But I still would recommend!

I was surprised by Chalco! There was a lot of nature and wildlife for it to be in the middle of town. But the lake is really beautiful, and the surrounding prairie and wooded areas were pretty as well. It is not much of a hike, more like a walk, as it was mostly flat and paved, but there are little grass trail offshoots that were fun. I also liked that it was almost 7 miles, since I like to hike/walk more than 5
miles a day. It wasn’t crowded when I went, as others have complained in reviews. Would definitely recommend for a relaxing walk with a great view.

This trail isn’t really a hike as it’s paved the whole way and pretty flat, but it was a gorgeous walk! The lake is gorgeous and so is the surrounding scenery. It is a good place to go for a relaxing and scenic walk. I was impressed with how secluded you feel right in the middle of town. I took off a star because the trail isn’t actually a loop—you have to walk on the side of 144th St, where there’s no sidewalk. They definitely need to add a sidewalk or find another way to make the trail a full loop. Otherwise, I enjoyed it!

Nice trail to walk around.

Very well maintained trail. Beautiful lake and surroundings. Unfortunately I didn’t read reviews before walking the entire lake. Very dangerous attempting to walk along 144th street. City really should consider putting a sidewalk there (only reason for low rating).

A family favorite for nice paved trails with a few small “nature trails” that provide variation. One section of trail is currently closed for renovations, however there are some connection options that still provide an opportunity to complete the loop.

Great trail! Peaceful. Mostly shaded. Parked across from soccer field. First 1 1/2 is road and goes through the fairgrounds then crosses over onto crushed gravel and gravel. I have used the trail twice this year and will continue to use it even though it’s a 20 minute trip from my home in Omaha.

The Best trial in Grand Island!!!!!

Really nice walk. You feel out in nature in the middle od town.

Much more accessible in late-fall/early-winter/spring. Decent foliage and for the most part, not many people on the west side.

Great trail run off the beaten path.

I ran this loop for the G.O.A.T.z Trail Run and I really enjoyed it. The views of the water are beautiful and it was a peaceful run. Gotta watch out for horse droppings as parts of it are also equestrian trails but I look forward to running here again soon.
