This trail is pretty in every season! The lake views are great year round, but especially at sunset time! There are various kinds of trees along the trail, and it keeps it cooler (in many areas) even on hot days. The skies are big and easy to see, which makes it great for around sunset time and for star gazing. My husband and I like that the trail is wide enough for us to walk side by side and still pass other people coming in the opposite direction.

I think it's fun to walk on the lake or go ice skating, when it freezes over in the Winter! It's also lovely for kayaking or canoeing during the other 3 seasons. There are benches along the trail to rest, and bridges to cross with lovely views. There is a giant mount/levee for part of the trail and it provides wonderful sunset views, as well as sledding off of it in the Winter, and kite flying on windy days. There are lots of ducks and birds, and occasionally (but rarely), other animals to see as well. The trail is comfortable for walking for all ages too! I highly recommend it!

Very nice ride

Brand new lake with concrete path all the way around. There are no trees along the path. Summer sun would make things uncomfortable due to the lack of shade. An overcast day made for a pleasant 5.25 mi. run.

We walk this trail at least three times a week. We have seen deer, turkey, turtles etc beautiful place to walk.

I hiked the full loop of around the lake. (7.2 miles)
West side poses more of a challenge due to talker grass. East side of the lake is more geared toward day campers, trails more maintained. Over all Great Lake views and a good day hike .

Excellent, well-maintained trail in a scenic environment. There is a lot of variety here, with ups and downs, lots of trees and vegetation, plenty of open spaces and of course, the beautiful lake. This is a long walk that may be difficult for toddlers and I know my small dogs would never be able to make it the whole way around. The path is large enough that it is definitely wheelchair accessible. I went on a Friday morning at 10:30 am, so I did not experience a lot of traffic on the path. The bicyclists I encountered did a great job of announcing themselves. I will definitely do this again. It feels so secluded despite the fact that it is so close to the city.

We walk here all the time. It’s the best park in Omaha for a long walk. You will however see a lot of people here, so if you are looking for a secluded area you might want to go to a park outside of city limits. That being said we enjoy this park! You see deer, birds, turkeys, hear owls in the evening and there are also tons of mulberry trees in the summer months.

Quiet place. There is no Richardson Nebraska. It is East of Dwight, Nebraska. A small village in the Bohemian Alps, Butler county in Nebraska.

We camp here annually for a family reunion and wander this trek. Lots of variety of birds, saw some deer while we were out this year. Yes it does go through some camp grounds but if your already here, why not walk around?

Standing Bear is one of my fav places in Omaha. I lived and worked close to this park for over 13 years and it’s a great place to go for a nice after work walk or run. I’ve never been where it’s been too crowded (such as Zorinsky) but it will get busier. The views are gorgeous, most people are friendly (a few bikers don’t announce their presence but most do). I’ve seen a great amount of deer, birds, snakes, flowers, and squirrels. Parts of the trail is open while others feel like you’re walking through a forest. My biggest issue is the section along 144th street. It is not paved and doesn’t feel very safe. I have walked it but usually turn around at that point. Also a nice park for picnics.

We walk here 4-5 times a week and seen Turkeys, geese, turtles, deer.....

I have been walking this trail for many years. It is a concrete trail that is very well maintained. It is beautiful in the evenings and is often quite busy. There is not a lot of shade but the trees and vegetation have grown in nicely over the years. Water fowl is frequently seen here and I saw a mink the other day. There are two parking lots for access. This is a family-friendly lake, accommodating strollers and wheelchairs. It is a long walk around for a small child but it’s an easy walk with only slight elevation changes. One of the best things about this lake is that except for a handful of houses, housing is not close to the water. This is a very safe location and moonlight walks are highly encouraged!

I enjoyed this hike. The lake is really pretty. Lake trails can be pretty flat and boring, but this trail runs through forest and prairie and had some ups and downs. I appreciated going through different landscapes. I did find, as others said, that while the east side of the trail is well maintained, the west side is pretty overgrown. The trail gets pretty hard to make out. But I just followed the map on here to make sure I was going in the right direction, and that worked pretty well. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE BUG SPRAY AND WEAR A HAT. I go hiking a lot and bugs are obviously inevitable, but it was excessive here. Found five ticks on me when I got home, probably from walking through the very tall foliage on the west side of the trail. I think next time I would hike the east side up to highway 36 and just turn around and hike back the same way instead of doing the loop. But I still would recommend!

I was surprised by Chalco! There was a lot of nature and wildlife for it to be in the middle of town. But the lake is really beautiful, and the surrounding prairie and wooded areas were pretty as well. It is not much of a hike, more like a walk, as it was mostly flat and paved, but there are little grass trail offshoots that were fun. I also liked that it was almost 7 miles, since I like to hike/walk more than 5
miles a day. It wasn’t crowded when I went, as others have complained in reviews. Would definitely recommend for a relaxing walk with a great view.

This trail isn’t really a hike as it’s paved the whole way and pretty flat, but it was a gorgeous walk! The lake is gorgeous and so is the surrounding scenery. It is a good place to go for a relaxing and scenic walk. I was impressed with how secluded you feel right in the middle of town. I took off a star because the trail isn’t actually a loop—you have to walk on the side of 144th St, where there’s no sidewalk. They definitely need to add a sidewalk or find another way to make the trail a full loop. Otherwise, I enjoyed it!

Busy, nice, in town walk around a small lake. Takes about 45 min. To walk. Sunsets are always nice.

I run this every once in a while, beautiful for being in the middle of town and easy- good for the whole family. Paved road around a lake, moderate traffic

This trail came up in a hiking search and I’m not sure why. I personally like hiking spots to be a little more secluded, and this park is literally right in the middle of a neighborhood. The lake was pretty and the path is flat and well maintained. Maybe a better spot for riding or just for a leisurely walk. Would be a nice spot to walk with a date or friend.

Great place to take a walk! Easy paved path with scenic views of the lake and surrounding forest. Also seems like a great place to ride your bike if you like that since the path is very smooth and flat. Not sure why it’s labeled moderate, it was easy. But some of the curves may be more difficult on a bike. Will have to do the full loop around the lake sometime.

Very well maintained trail. Beautiful lake and surroundings. Unfortunately I didn’t read reviews before walking the entire lake. Very dangerous attempting to walk along 144th street. City really should consider putting a sidewalk there (only reason for low rating).

A family favorite for nice paved trails with a few small “nature trails” that provide variation. One section of trail is currently closed for renovations, however there are some connection options that still provide an opportunity to complete the loop.

Decent trail and nice for a quick ride near our home. On the downside there are tons of people which today included several groups
Of teenagers smoking marijuana and an Asian outdoor party that was playing karaoke loud enough it could be hard across the lake.

This is a walk through campgrounds.

The loop is great, and the off leash area close by is the best by far in the area

Loved this trail, only bad side is they have trails going to places that end, like up to the pavilion on the hill, you have to back track down to meet the main trail, some signs that says where it goes and if it dead ends and you need to turn around (did have horse trail you could print use, but not if it's wet/muddy). Great for walking, running, jogging, bicycling. Has other trails you can explore, when it's not wet or muddy. Playground area, boat dock.
