This was the most beautiful hike I have been on to date. Even though I have read the reviews, I could not really imagine the amount of pristine, huge mountain lakes, streams and waterfalls. I hiked with my 2 teens and we started at noon on Saturday (18th) and came out at 6pm on Sunday (19th). The mosquitoes were hardly a problem. But we did get hit by heavy rain, some thunder (never saw lightning) and low temps. We weren't quite prepared for that and had to camp earlier than expected on Saturday because we didn't have gloves or hats. Otherwise, the weather was perfect. Definitely add this to your "must do" list if you haven't yet hiked it.

Such a ludicrously beautiful hike. It will wear you out, but it is worth the time it takes to complete it.

Fantastic view. Lots of people though even in the late evening and little parking.

WARNING THE ROAD IS TERRIABLE TO GET THERE. takes about 40 minutes to go 7 miles. I recommend an all wheel drive or truck. I camped at the campground then departed in darkness. I had 3.03 miles one way to the top. well worth it was an amazing view. I highly recomend it.

It's on the reservation on private property, so you need permission to hike it. no real parking lot, deep deep woods. definitely bring bear spray! If you're brave enough to go further than the 3/4 mile we made it, good luck.

Took Moose Tracks to Bone Crusher. Good day hike. The views at the top were great but also enjoyed a lot of views along the way.

on Sapphire Lake

Many trails are available from the Holland Lake trailhead, which is easily accessible 4 miles down a good dirt road right off of route 83. Do not try to find the trailhead by entering Sapphire Lake directly into GoogleMaps, as that brought me to the wrong place. The AllTrails directions brought me to the right trailhead, which has restrooms, but no water. It was fairly busy there by mid-day, mostly with folks taking the trail to the falls.

I only went to Upper Holland Lake, which was 11 miles RT and 2753 ft of elevation gain. So, I am guessing that to get up to Sapphire Lake is much more than another 0.4 miles. That is a good thing, because that would be a short distance over which to gain another 842 ft of elevation.

Very nice hike. The views of Holland Lake are pretty, and the hike brings you through varied terrain, sometimes along a creek with nice waterfalls. It is a steady, but not brutal uphill trip on a well maintained trail with only a little bit of overgrowth in a few places. Upper Holland Lake seems like a popular spot to overnight. I did not see any bears, but I feel like maybe I did see paw prints on the trial.

There are many other trails in this area not shown on this map, and you could easily get confused if you don't have a more complete map. I relied on the AllTrails app and still ended up taking a wrong turn on the way down and had to backtrack when I realized that I had missed the bridge over the creek right by the camping area about halfway up.

So first off, road up isn’t too bad. However this hike is a climb almost every step to the top of the saddle. Too hazy to see mountains today, but nice rock slides and views of Palisades Mountain. Lots of wildflowers and beautiful creek photo opportunities. Bring snack and lots of fluids on warm days. It’s a trek! Moderate is probably accurate considering much of the trail is loose rock and horse travel up there hasn’t helped the creek crossings. Most are easily navigable if you look around and find alternate routes to keep dry. But I can see earlier in season, or if any rainfall at all, there being a great deal of mud and potentially wet feet.

Beautiful easy hike. Can be kind of confusing where to turn off the main trail to the lake. Easy Incline until the last ~.3mi turn off and your headed straight up to the lake. It’s a horse trail so be prepared for a lot of horse sh*t.

Beautiful trails, not paved for wheelchairs but if on a motorized should be ok. A bit buggy after rain yesterday. Should have used bug spray.

8/11/2018. Stayed at the Garnet Mountain lookout cabin for the weekend. It was a little Smokey but the 360 views were amazing. Highly recommend!

The parking areas around the lake are open, what a great hike went up through grand view, just hard to find the second ice cave

This is a stunning hike. Our Garmin recorded 5mi each way. Trail is as described by others. We were able to get there in our Prius, road is rocky and potholed but with care it's doable. There is a camp just before the trailhead on the left that has space and horse hitches. Plenty of room for cars and trailers, no drop toilet at trailhead. There's a few wooded group camps along the way and a spot right by the falls. Camping at the lake is tricky if there are others there. Like others said, cross the creek and there's a rugged trail you can follow, it's pretty overgrown but there are a few other spots. Bring a hammock too for more options, there isn't much flat ground. Lake is great to swim in. The group next to us caught 4 fish. Hang your food. Great hike, only downside is lack of flat ground at the lake.

Beautiful views but very challenging... technical for running in many spots.

I hiked a portion of this trail with my 2 sons as many of the West Glacier trails were not open. It was a decent hike and only a little challenging although we did not complete the entire hike. There was nothing to "ooh" and "aah" about along the way, but it was still a nice hike on a narrow path. We saw a handful of other hikers on the way. The path is shared with horseback riders although we were hiking late in the day and didn't see any riders. In order to hit the trail head you must first drive a mile or so on a gravel road.

looking for a key swap starting august 20th, we are from Bozeman if that helps, email kjpoch@gmail.com

Our family has stopped on this trail at the overlook numerous times over the years; on our last visit we hiked to the lakeshore for the first time, ascending back up the trail was somewhat strenuous, but worth seeing the scenery and serenity lakeside.

Loved this hike, beautiful wild flowers. Hike to twin lakes was beautiful as well.

Hiked this trail in late July. It was pretty, and quiet.

One of my all time favorites. Absolutely loved it!

Hiked this trail in mid-July. It was hot but the falls were beautiful and I loved the challenge.

Hiked this trail in late spring. the falls were raging. very pretty and my dog loved the lake.

This was one of my all time favorite hikes. Loved it. It was so beautiful! Worth the drive!

Breath taking views. Saw cougar scat on the trail, but my dog did not seem startled. So climbwd to the top. Worth it.
