Great hike, pretty much an uphill slog with lots of views. We only went in about 4.5 miles to a nice plateau area, had lunch and returned to the trail head

Well kept trail with two beautiful lakes and a waterfall. The trail is well worn but the markings are poor and it's easy to get off trail if you're not paying close attention.

fun hike, cool lake and lots of wildlife.
we were charged at by a moose so bring bear spray

Lots of uphill, with short bursts of flat. The waterfalls at the bottom and the wild raspberries in the burned out area are a plus. Look for the little cabin at mile 2. Lake is nice, but not the “gorgeous mountain lake” I was looking for.

Great, easy hike! Good for kids in the 7-13 range.

Great hike. Not too difficult, not too easy. Very steady incline all the way up, only had to stop once on the way to the top. I've read that there's some confusion as to where the turnoff to Lost Lake is, just look for a tree that's been cut and on top of the cut is a little rock cairn. Turn left there and it's about another 1/4 to 1/2 mile. I'll share a picture for reference.

Great hike good fishing at September morn

Wildflowers were remarkable, mostly the Fireweed. Lake is much bigger than usual due to high snow melt this year, creek crossings are moderately difficult without getting wet. I'd consider this a mild-moderate hike. The first mile is definitely a tough warm-up, the last 3.5 miles are a bit easier.

Great trail conditions. Wildlife and campsite is great!

Pretty trail and views. Very rocky, need shoes or boots if taking horses.

Great hike. Absolutely stunning. It’s 5 miles round trip to the lower lake and 8 miles round trip to the upper lake. Be prepared for different weather patterns as the elevation changes. We got hailed on in July near the top!

This is a great hike, with exceptional views of the valley that is a super short drive to get to. It is 1/4 mile on the right, after you turn on to West Fork Road. The trailhead is not well marked and it only has room for a handful of cars...but it is a nice day hike. Give it a go!

Spectacular hike! Camped at September lake and hiked up to the pass in the morning. A great challenge; all the elevation gain is at the end

Really enjoyed this hike. Took my eight year old boy on an overnight hike. Both of us did well. Trail was well maintained and beautiful.

Alltrails has this listed as an easy trail. I would say it's at least moderate. The high elevation and distance are a challenge. It's a beautiful hike and definitely worth the trip.

We love this area! We took the 4-wheeler to the top and hiked from there. We did veer from the trail to climb down to the lakes (which made the hike a bit tougher coming back up). There’s still snow in mid-July and lots of runoff coming down.

Moderate. Not easy. Brought water filter and filled up on creek at about mile 3. Beautiful views

Stunning, spectacular, exquisite, magical...

Love this hike, first part is rather steep and you're in the open with no cover but the tree cover comes back and it's not bad at all. There's a beautiful waterfall in the beginning and the upper lake has phenomenal small fish fishing. Worth a day hike easily!

Nice trail, easy enough for kids. A little bit of a challenge for my 4 year old to navigate the rocks but he had a blast. we will go back for sure. It was hard to follow the directions since there was no sign marking the turn off into west fork road from Red Lodge, we finally found it.

This was a tough hike! Very fun! Lasted a few hours. Highly recommended!

We only went 2 miles up. The sign to start the trail is not clear, no mention of the falls. There is no shade the first 1.5 miles. We were looking for the falls. we finally noticed a trickle on the MT and not sure if that was it. Definitely not the water falls I was expecting. It started to get nice after 1.5 miles so maybe the rest is better. The fire really made it barren those first 1.5 miles.

Great hike. Definitely going back to check out all the lakes. There was a lot of traffic!

This is my favorite trail but the incline is grueling. Takes me about 1:45 to get to the top. I just hiked it yesterday and I think I’m good for the rest of the summer.

Great hike. Beautiful lake. It is an uphill walk with the first 3 miles thru a burn area, so not quite as scenic. Couple of semi tricky creek crossings for the over 60 group. No snow on the trail.

great hike ♡ a little longer hike for a day hike but nice gradual incline so it's very enjoyable on the way up and down. the lake was stunning and peacful. I highly recommend it and will go again.

Great day hike. Pleasant trail with some beautiful views. Went all the way to the Meadows and back.

Good views with a Good trail for beginners. We will go again

Unfortunately we headed down river at the start of this trail instead of upriver & so cannot do a relevant review. However we did trek 14k out & back in total & it was a very picturesque trek. We had the river rapids for company the whole way & stopped half way for a picnic lunch on a rock with lovely vista. No sign of any bears although we did have beat spray at the ready.
