Noticed a sign at trail, Tribal Conservation Permit required. A local hiker warned us about possibly getting a ticket. We weren’t aware of where to obtain one, so we took our chances with no encounters. Lovely, shaded, walk to the reservoir. A mother bear and cubs were sighted an hour earlier, but we didn’t see it. Bring bug spray, bear spray, permit. There is no official trail marker. Wouldn’t have found this without AllTrails. 3 stars because of permit requirement.

The trail is literally walking along the road up to the lake. As such, the first part of the trail is relatively boring, but you eventually get to nice views of the creek, and the lake at the end is pretty.

A nice walk along hellroaring creek. Take a shell as the weather changes dramatically in this area even in the summer. Oh and bear spray.. you will need to purchase an SKC tribal land use permit available at Wal Mart and many other local area retailers.

You need a Confederated Salish and Kootenai tribal recreation permit. You can easily get one at Wal-mart. This road/trail is a nice forest hike that ends with outstanding views of the Polson valley, Mission Mountains and Flathead Lake. It is especially nice on days when the fog and inversion are heavy in the valley! You get above the inversion and the views are amazing! Good birding along this trail as well!
