The parking areas around the lake are open, what a great hike went up through grand view, just hard to find the second ice cave

Well maintained trail, gained a lot of elevation. Ice caves are awesome. We then continued our journey to the Uhlhorn Tail.

I just did this hike 06.09.18. We did have to hike across some snow. I would suggest starting at the Ice Caves Trailhead and coming out at the Uhlhorn trailhead. If the Ice Caves Trailhead is closed you can start at the Crystal Cascades Trailhead and follow signs to Uhlhorn Trail. The signs are pretty off as far as mileage goes. We ended up with 28 miles instead of 20.

I love this trail. Normally I go out and back the same way instead of doing the loop. The trail is marked at the top with rocks. The ice caves will be on the left of the trail, like a crack in the rock. You can also do the Ice Caves hike through the Crystal Cascades trailhead; just follow signs to Ulhorn Trail. I just did that this weekend because the Ice Caves Trailhead was closed 06.09.18.

Incredible views of the lake! One of my favorite spots in Montana. Take note that even in mid-June there is a ton of snow near the top so if you don’t have snow shoes you’ll be struggling through 3+ ft of snow for about a mile.

Beautiful scenery, very rocky once you get to the top and make sure you go in the ice caves on the back side! Gorgeous! And my dog really loved getting to cool down in the ice caves before heading back, definitely bring bear spray and we had a couple run ins in this area!

trail was moderately difficult. but the view from the top of the ridge and the ice caves were well worth the effort!

Great hike complete with two caves and high alpine plateau. Recommend later in season due to snow. If you visit the caves be sure to tread lightly as not to spoil them for others.

Superb views and challenging terrain. the waterfall and Ice Caves are worth the leg burning hike. Crystal waterfall is 3 1/2 miles roughly from either trail head. Ice caves are a bit over 5 miles from the trailhead located just outside of Crystal Lakes day use area.
