A fantastic trail for beginner to intermediate mountain bikers. Wide trails, steady incline, plenty of shade and plenty of places to relax and enjoy the scenery. Very dog friendly as well if you want to ride with your pups. Both trail runs and cyclists would appreciate.

Great views of Missoula and it’s such a short hike with plenty of nice resting spots that the steady incline isn’t bad.

One of my favorite trails near Missoula. AMAZING view of the city and the University of Montana Campus.

Today was 77degrees and perfect! I went to the M and continued up to Sentinel. After the M you have a choice at the fork. The left takes you pretty much straight up while the right meanders. I chose left and made it to the top of Sentinel in 52 min, 28 sec. (from the trailhead parking lot). I am 60 years old, climb a lot and found this to be a good workout hike in late May with spectacular views of Missoula, the surrounding mountains and lovely wildflowers. Sticks are super helpful on the steep route up to Sentinel. Afterward I found Caffe Dulce-SCORE!!

If your in Missoula for any amount of time it's kinda a must hike. Quick tip for starting the trail is taking the path on the right will bring you to the easier switchback and the left path is a steep ascent up to Sentinel.

Love The M! Great view of Missoula!

Great trail for running/biking. There can be sketchy characters lurking... which is why I gave it only 4 stars. I have come across little homeless camps and stray campers (one time the hikers behind me had to call the police on one of the tents due to "aggressive activity" so be aware.

I hike up here at least one a month and it's a great view of Missoula.

live right below it, it's a 10-20 minute drive to the trail head from my house love the views but be warned if you go to the small lake below make sure you have plenty of water it takes a good hour to two hours just to get down plus an additional 3 to get up due to the steepness of the back side was driving in arlee and you could just see how steep the other side was compared to the ninemile side definitely a must do if you like to hike.

Nice trail for winter fun like snowshoeing, cross country skiing or fat tire biking. Quite crowded, at least over the holidays, but everyone seems pretty happy to be out in the magical snowy wonderland. Wide trail, fairly easy and mild. Gorgeous views, and you follow the creek off and on along the way. Only did a few miles today, but excited to go back for more!

Nice quick hike to the “M” with a nice city view!!

Easy, great for mountain biking.

Love this trail! Steep grades, beautiful views.

It's a great hike. Easily accessible. It's very easy and not to much nature, which is why I have it a 3 instead of higher. Still a beautiful, enjoyable trail.

Nice hike, don't forget to lift your sight from the rocks and roots. The beargrass fields are a nice place to look in all directions. The boulder hoping at the top is doable. The 360 degree at the top is unique.

gotta be on everyone's list.

Incredible views from the top. The trail is relatively easy and flat 75% of the trip. Toughest part is the last climb to the top over talus rock. Well worth every step.

This is a fabulous trail. Quite a challenging workout, yet quick. I do wish they would do some trail maintenance so some of the steps are not so high (I'm short), but overall it's great!

Road our bikes to Franklin Bridge last Friday. First Mtn bike ride for my girls and they did great. Wildflowers beautiful, White Tail and Mule Deer and our second run-in with a year old Blond black bear just off the trail. Other hikers, walkers and cyclists were courteous. The creek is still pumping!

Walked the trailhead to the Pilcher Creek crossing on Friday, June 16, 2017. Easy walk, light drizzle. Beautiful wildflowers, two black bears near the trail. Large Elk tracks and droppings and white tail and mule deer near the trail.
