felt longer than it was. aside from steep downhill beginning, mostly gradual up and down. lots of timber, so no views from trail. fished, no luck. couple campsites & fire rings next to lake. pretty lake. would be good for a trail bike too.

Holy moly, this trail is a workout! We hiked to the top, aka when you see the sign for Alpine Trail #7. You can keep going on that trail if you wish, all the way to Jewel Basin. If you want a shorter hike, you can hike to the waterfalls that are approximately 2.2 miles from the trail head. Once you cross the logs, you have to hike up the hill to the left to get all the way to the waterfalls. The top has some of the most amazing views of the valley and of GNP. Bring bear spray for sure and know that this trail is not very populated. Lots of bugs too. Great, challenging hike!

Was a fun fairly easy hike . Some cool views of the little waterfall if you climb down a little ways . Lots of up and downs but not very steep. Not much parking but wasn’t too busy, ran into a couple people. Lots of dogs both on and off leash. Lots and lots of mosquitoes, bring bug spray! And finally once you get to the lake there is a nice little sitting area someone has made out of logs with a little fire pit if you’d like to have a picnic once you get there.

So I will break it down, when you get to the “T” in the trail take a right!! The main attraction to this trail is Jenny Lake which is a grunt to get up. After taking a right at the “T” you will make a pretty strenuous climb before making a slight descent into the lake. We saw a moose, no bear scat, but definitely in bear territory. Hope you all have fun, I wish they would change the name to Jenny Lake Trl. rather than Dorris Cr. Trl.

We took our three dogs on this hike. Our GPS measured 2.38 miles from the trailhead to the big rocks at the lake, so the total distance estimate is spot on. We averaged about 22 minute miles on the way out, which is primarily uphill. About .75 miles in on the trail is the log bridge you see in the photos. Our dogs had no trouble crossing. There are two other stream crossings that have rocks for step stones but are only a few inches deep. We crossed two groups on the way out. One had been fishing and caught some cutthroat. There is no real shoreline though so you have to fish from rocks or take waders. On the return trip the last half mile is straight uphill but not bad. I'd say the trail is overall easy with some moderate parts on the elevation sections. We saw some birds and skunk fur but no other animals. Great hike, well marked trailhead, room for at least 8 cars to park.

Is there parking at the trailhead?

you gain a lot of elevation... then drop low again. For a backcountry skiier its always a loss when u lose elevation and have to climb and gain it back. but the veiws of the valley are hard to beat!

Great trail if you are looking for a challenge!

Perfect little day hike. Lots to see along the way. In the fall the colors are amazing and it's not very crowded.

Awsome mountain biking trail!!!!!!

Not what I expected. I was looking for a 10 mile hike and thought this was it. When this says it is 5.3 miles I thought the trail would end. There is a small waterfall at about 2.5 miles but the trail continues on after that. If you want to go to the lookout at the top of the mountain it is about 7.3 miles one way that are pretty steep. Since I didn’t know what to expect on this trail I kept going past the waterfall. If you want to see a better waterfall than the one that is directly on the trail, cross the small river and go up the riverbank on the right. There is about a 20 foot waterfall about 2/8 of a mile up the river. The trail does go up at first and then down and then up. The last 4 miles are really steep so be prepared. The view from the top is breathtaking.

Pretty trail, moderate difficulty. Lake is beautiful and has great fishing. I take my out of town family here every visit.

I was disappointed by this hike and we past a couple coming out that stopped hiking after 15 minutes of hiking this trail. The trail was so over grown that it chaffer your legs. You are able to see the creek a few times, but you are mostly on the trail without a lot to look at. We did see fresh bear spore about 45 minutes in and decided to turn around.

steep but worth it

This is pretty much just a workout hike. no destination (lake, mt. view) per the description. At the end, the trail comes to a T intersection with no information where this leads. We passed hikers on our way down that said if you go right at the T for a mile and a half it leads to Jenny Lake and two small Doris Lakes for fishing. That would be useful information to include in the trail description, but that makes it about 5 miles one way to a lake, but at least you can camp and have a destination per se, rather than just a long uphill slog with little in the way of panoramic views. Lots of scat, but no bear/cat sightings. Some huckleberries. Would not do this hike again.

Great hike with a few waterfalls along the way. Amazing views of the valley at various points. Hidden waterfalls just off trail that the dog loved to play in. Lots of elevation changes but also had lots of switch backs.

horseback riding

We have taken horses in here many times. Busy trail with hikers, mountain bikes and dirt bikes. Everyone has always been respectful of our stock. Easy trail, only takes about an hour to get to the lake on horseback. There are a few spots along the lake to have lunch or go fishing. No hitching rails at the lake. Very limited parking at the trailhead.

Great hike with some steep terrain but levels out in between. Quiet lake and Beautiful canyon waterfalls. We mapped at 6 miles round trip. Do yourself a favor and come in on the west side. Way way shorter and almost all pavement.

Great hike for 8 yrs and up. once you get to the water, head left and follow the trail up to the top. Great falls. Enjoy.

We did Hike-a-Bike for the first 5ish miles uphill. The ride down was worth it. Some loose bigger rocks today. The human traffic wasn't too bad. The weather was perfect and the views were great.
