Great easy hike in beautiful Big Horn country. The trail map is so attractive that I hoped/expected to see so much of the river canyon, the major attraction for visiting. But most of the trail is 100s of feet from canyon views. The best, and great view!, is where the trail bifurcates to start the loop hike.

nice easy trail, just before the island area therea a turn off and a small campground. its hike or boat in only so not a busy area

The back loop is not clearly marked since I was convinced I was lost for a bit. Not a lot of shade, so I’d recommend a cooler time of day. Great views though!

I didn’t see any rattlesnakes but they are out there. Fairly well marked. Awesome views.

excellent view at the turn around loint.

Very nice view.

Very cool buildings. I have attached a bunch of photos. But the loop trail isn't marked! I couldn't find it for the life of me. If you have hints on how to find it please post for everyone else!

A nice walk. While the trail is sometimes hard to descern, it is impossible to get lost. There are several good viewpoints on this trail, and plenty of 'bonus' peaks and valleys to check out.

Really easy walk through a lush area in the high desert. The buildings are well maintained. I'm sure it was quite the outfit in its prime. Great little piece of Wyoming history and fun easy spot to check out.

A very easy trail. Part of the trail is a jeep road. I had hoped to see some bighorn sheep but it did not happen.

A nice little trail. But it still offered enough scenery. It has been a while but I still remember how easy it was.

I did this some time ago but remember it well. Reading above, it becomes obvious to me that I took the wrong trail. The trail I was on was overgrown.

We did 3 of the view lookout trails. This one had the best views and you could see much more of the river below. If you are only doing one, this should be it! Super easy hike and very short.

Very cool to think about the history of this area

A fun, relatively easy hike. It was a bit steep and rocky at times and the trails were sometimes hard to follow. The view at the State Line Overlook was amazing. The Ranger's Delight view was so-so.

If you have to pick just one hike, take the State Line Trail. It is a bit easier, more scenic with a great view of the canyon. The view at the end of the Ranger's Delight trail barely overlooks the river and canyon. This hike was also a bit more strenuous than the State Line Trail and not as scenic.

This is an easy trail with a dramatic view at the end. On a scale of one to WOW, it is a double WOW!!!!!

Almost two short to get out of the car. But it is interesting to think about the history.

I love checking out those old cabins. Take bear spray. I know there are bears that hang out in the area.

Park in the designated area on the west side of the park road one-half mile north of the Montana state line. The trail begins on the east side of the road on the lower north edge of the draw. While following the faint road cut, it is easy to feel like the only person that has ever hiked this trail. Continue to follow the trail through the saddle and toward the canyon. At the cut-off fence post and trail marker, you can turn left and hike toward the rim. This is the end of the trail. Walking to the right will bring you into the bend of the river and give unique views of the canyon. Walking to the left, you have a good view of the ledge below with a sheep trail that treacherously traces the canyon rim. For more solitude and exploration go back to the cut-off fence post and continue to follow the road cut and trail markers to the State Line trail. The connecting trail is 0.37 miles each way.

This is a well marked trail and easy to hike. Last time I was on it I saw a herd of bighorn sheep :)

It is an interesting park of Bighorn Canyon. Most of the park is high desert. However, the Lockhart Ranch has a spring running year round making this area greener than the surrounding area. The old log cabins are fun to checkout!
