Steep climb, great workout to the top. No switch-backs, just straight up but fairly short.

Beautiful trail, panoramic views. No bears, but be on the look-out for (very polite) mountain bikers. Awesome experience! Recommend parking one car at beginning of trail and the other at end of trail. Post-hike beers at Blackfoot Brewery.

Beautiful hike! Fall colors were gorgeous. Say that this is an easy to moderate hike instead of a moderate hike.

Very nice trail for a quick hike. Uphill most of the way up, with a great view of Helena at the top! Hiked 9/20/18.

Lots of downed trees across the trail but met a young man on our way back down with a chain saw going up to clear the trail on his own . How nice was that? So now would highly recommend this trail. It is about 8.6 miles round trip. Beautiful views at the top!

Definitely not a hard hike. Nice long range views at the top.

Well-kept trail. I wish people would pick up after their dogs, first part of trail smells like

During our first visit to Helena, we hiked the Powerline trail to the summit and took 1906 down the mountain. Being from the Midwest, I found this first climb to be moderately challenging. I consider myself relatively fit, but have to admit the altitude and steep incline in a short amount of time was not expected. After spending a week in that altitude, I returned to the same hike and did it in half the time.

It’s a great workout. The trails have changed a lot since I was a kid. The entire mountain used to be covered in trees but beetle kill took out a lot of pine trees and now the mountain doesn’t have a lot of the beauty it once held. It’s still my all time favorite quick hike when I visit home.

Awesome view! Great hike for the family and dogs!

Beautiful views. Only snag was that where the map said the trailhead would be, we didn’t really find anything close to resembling a trail. Ended up being more of a meander through the timber.

Beautiful trail today. Got a late start and was getting hot, so only did 9.3. Wildflowers still in full bloom. No sign of wildlife until the meadow at the top where there was couple day-old elk droppings. Gorgeous views.

I have no idea why this trail is rated as hard. It's not. Granted I live at 8,600 feet in Colorado, and do real hiking; but the rating on this is off. We chose to go down Powerline, and then back up it to feel like we worked a bit. As far as conditions, and views, it's pleasant. Don't mean to be negative, I just simply don't agree with the rating.

This info is wrong, you can take dogs up here without a leash. A leash is only required at the very bottle when coming back into the main entrance. Just make sure your dog is behaved enough to handle it. Great hike, I live at the base so I do it often. Great workout and the views never get old.

Loved this trail! Perfectly intense. But shaded! And well marked!

Nice views at the summit, great for a sunset hike!

Great trail network just on the edge of town. Stopped in Helena on our way back to Denver and was elated to learn this whole trail system allows dogs off leash as long as they are under voice command!

Not as cool because even well trained dogs needed to remain on leash. Won’t return to this trail.

a little strenuous but definitely worth it! wonderful views!

I hiked this trail, the deadfall has been cleared and the wild-flowers are out, especially at the start of the trail (by the bridge over the wetlands) and in the high mountain meadows. I saw raspberries growing and huckleberries ripening about 1/2 mile into the hike. Take bear spray, I ran into some scat about 3.9 miles in on the mountain meadow.

Fun hike!

Wouldn't consider it hard, but moderate. Nice trail. Can easily go to top and come down Pinchot back to Rodney Ridge Trailhead in an hour and a half.

Loved that so much of this Trail is shaded but with some best in class views too! Great cardio for about 50 minutes power walk to top. Saw lots of dogs and older people and youngsters making the trip too- seemed good family hike! Some loose rocks and jagged steps but not so much that you can’t look up and enjoy!

This is one we often do early in the year because it is so gentle. In April we got turned back because of high water in the stream which is unusual. The creek often disappears into the gravels for most of the hike. Today, the water is still higher than usual so we had a total of 14 creek crossings... 3 of those were on bridges within the 1st mile that is accessible... rest were easy crossings. Found a few Lady Slipper orchids which was a surprise. this trail is not one I would say is loaded with wild flowers but there are a few. Cliffs are the real draw on this hike.

had a blast with my 3 kids (8, 5, 2.5, infant) to the top and back today! the 2.5 year old walked to the top, and I carried her half way down.

Lots of branching paths. Fun trail. Lots of people on it. Mostly friendly. Some good views but not amazing.

Great views! The cave is neat. More shade along the way. I went up Prospect Shafts and down this way, which was helpful since 1906 is definitely steeper!

Nice hike with incredible views! I had to take several breaks along the way up because it was steeper than I imagined. Next time, I’ll hike it in the morning to stay cooler (there’s no shade).

Many different trail options—easy to lose your way from the Mount Ascension trail if you’re a first timer. Awesome spot for hiking, trail running and biking. Great view of Helena from the ridge!

Great trail and well maintained. Can get busy at times, but worth the scenery at the top.
