I hiked this trail, the deadfall has been cleared and the wild-flowers are out, especially at the start of the trail (by the bridge over the wetlands) and in the high mountain meadows. I saw raspberries growing and huckleberries ripening about 1/2 mile into the hike. Take bear spray, I ran into some scat about 3.9 miles in on the mountain meadow.

Travel to the right of Spring Meadow Pond and you will find Ten Mile Park with a very easy trail in a field type setting. Well maintained and marked. Level ground. Some bridges over the creek.

Wouldn't consider it hard, but moderate. Nice trail. Can easily go to top and come down Pinchot back to Rodney Ridge Trailhead in an hour and a half.

Lots of branching paths. Fun trail. Lots of people on it. Mostly friendly. Some good views but not amazing.

Many different trail options—easy to lose your way from the Mount Ascension trail if you’re a first timer. Awesome spot for hiking, trail running and biking. Great view of Helena from the ridge!

Gorgeous views of the Cathedral and Carrol College.

Got a little side tracked onto Prickly Pear but got back on the trail quickly! The snow pack is pretty good but the backside is loose. Beautiful day for a hike! Would definitely recommend as a good winter hike!

Winter hike and the trails were in good shape.

Lots of switchbacks, not lots of sun exposure so it’s chilly this time of year. Other hikers, mountain bikers, dogs. There are shorter trails in here you can take. About hour to go 3.4 miles

Gorgeous view from the top. Went in early spring and wasn't too much foot traffic. Little bit of snow to watch out for.

Markings could be clearer. Fantastic views. Much harder than moderate, though. Steep, with scrabbly spots.

No real directions. We kind of wandered around but it was a beautiful hike.

Description should be added to include all trail names needed to get to the top but it was a great hike.

Great hike. It was a beautiful Easter day!

Began the hike around 12:30. Left around 3:00. It we a warm November evening an snow had not yet arrived, so we gave it a shot. This was my second mountain biking experience, and I guess I just expected it to be more epic. You hike for 1- 1 1/2 hours and a 1/2 downhill. What can I say? It's not Big Sky.

Great trail close enough to town for a quick hike, but far enough away to forget that you're in Helena.

A series of well marked trails offering a decent ascent to Mt. Ascension. At the saddle, heading to the peak away from My. Ascension affords even better views.

Trails aren't marked well, but worth the view. The map above is far off from what's there, otherwise very pleased.

This trail feels more wild than Mount Helena. It's harder to navigate with less defined trails, but don't let that stop you. The view at the top is stunning and well worth the effort!

Great hike, the views were constant through the hike.

I'm going to hit this trail again, the day I did it, there was so much deadfall it was a challenge. That's just an observation. Trees fall. It's all good. And it's close enough to Helena to be a good day-hike that doesn't necessarily consume the whole day.

For some reason I find Mount Ascension intimidating. I think it's because there are so many trails intersecting, etc. that it's not easy to map out a route. This is another edge-of-town hike in Helena where the trails are heavily used. This means a lot of trail breakdown that makes using them somewhat unpleasant.

Rodney Ridge trail is one that can be done in a variety of lengths and as an edge-of-town hike is very easy to get to. (Except in winter, the road to the trailhead is very steep, and the parking area is equally steep. Ice on both of these means you should park your vehicle at the bottom of Rodney Street and walk up with traction devices on your boots.)

Whoever said they did this hike as a 7-miler in 2-hours did NOT do it in knee deep snow like I did in October of 2013. Actual distance is 8+ and took nearly 8-hours to reach the peak and return to our starting point of Moose Creek Cabin. I cannot testify to the trail really because of the deep snow. Navigation was strictly by GPS with the trail laid out. Not sure I will ever want to repeat this despite the spectacular view from the top where a lookout used to stand.

Not bad, long dry hike stay hydrated, the view isn't bad either!

Nice views hiking. However the trails in that area lack signs, and don't take a normal car up there. About 4 miles of large, sharp rocks on the dirt road getting up there. Once there though, it's a pleasant bit of exercise and scenery.

Rode this mid May. It was apparent this trail is seldom used. There were many fallen trees blocking the path on the lower portion. The climb was difficult and had to push most of it; however, the views from the top were amazing and the ride down very entertaining.

This collection of trails is more commonly referred to as "The South Hill Trails" and are wonderful for morning, lunch break, evening and weekend hikes. They are also great to take visitors from out of town. All these trails loop together and are well marked. Plenty of parking at numerous trail heads. Accessible year-round and well behaved dogs are welcome.

This trail isnt a bad trail aimed more towrds the intermediate level riders. Mainly to some of the small technical aspects of it all a few small but steep drops and plenty spots to grab som air. All and all its not bad at all since Helena really dosnt offer a whole lot of technical riding.
