Hiking

The goal was to start on Sawtooth but leave the trail after the bridge to summit Goat Mtn. This is not an official trail but fairly clear to follow. Trail was snow covered most of the way. Icy in spots. This is a burn area and we eventually turned around because of blow down danger in the high wind.

Olivia Chinn (see comment below) took Griffin from his home in the valley. He belongs to a wonderful and sweet couple that live at the trailhead. He often roams around by himself, and sometimes joins us on our runs. He should NOT have been taken and removed from his home. We will be contacting the Humane Society tomorrow to ensure that Griffin wasn’t given away to another family due to the actions of Ms. Chinn.

Trail was snowy and icy in the shade. Could have used traction device. Took a detour after we crossed the bridge and saw the new Cow Creek sign. Up in the sunshine! Amazing views. Great day out there.

Many blow downs from last weeks wind. Sunny start but clouds rolled in by the time we got to the lake. Snowy!

Beautiful hike. Still lots of trees across the trail in the first mile. We didn’t make it more than a couple miles as a major storm was rolling in, but enough that I know I’d like to back and hike further.

HikingGreat!Muddy

It was a little tricky to find. Apple Maps said to park the car and walk, but it was definitely a keep driving moment! When I did arrive, however it was clearly marked. The trail itself is easy to follow, starts out as easy, ends easy, but moderate through the middle portion. The end is phenomenal. What a beautiful mountain lake view!! One of my favorite hikes so far. We went on a Monday and there was no one else on the trail. It took my dog and I 2.5 hours to complete. Fast downhill walk back. 6 miles on my Apple Watch.

the trail is very well maintained..dont let all trail fool you..it is NOT 4 miles to the top..its 4 to the rock over look and 6.5ish to the top, it is pretty powdery in the first few miles, by mile 2 it starts to get a little rocky, and the last 2 miles are comprised of alot of slate, absolutely beautiful views!!

Great trail. No bugs, lots of shade, lakes were cold. First mile was the steepest grade, flat from there on out.

FOUND DOG. Male Griffon, brown and black, no chip or tags. Dropped him off at the Bitterroot Humane Association on 8/25 around 12:30pm. Trail was great, loved the creek flowing aside it. Easy access to driving and in great condition!

I did this trail about 7 miles in. It does have many logs down that you have to climb over

Drive up was actually pretty nice so long as you have the clearance. The trail itself was marvelous! Plenty of shade. Just technical enough to keep you on your toes and very runnable. I’d highly recommend checking this one out!

This trailhead was easily accessible being only a few miles in from the highway. I took the switchback route for the first few miles. About half way was a cool grouping of rocks and overlook of roaring lion. There is also a small creek crossing. The last few miles were pretty steep. Views are great and there are the remains of an old lookout up top. I was solo and didn’t see anyone until the start of the second mile coming down. Passed 3 mtn bikers hiking their bikes. They passed me when I was on my last half mile. All in all it’s a challenging workout, pretty views, and total RT around 13 miles.

Trail was nicely marked and easy to follow. The view was worth it! It was mostly a shaded trail and was pretty rocky towards the end. My GPS got it as 8 miles round trip.

Completed 8/14. Saw only one group coming down the trail from a shorter hike early in the day. Trail was a steady climb from start to top. Trail was in good condition, sun exposure for more than 2/3s the hike, so start very early this time of year. Views from the top are spectacular. Tough hike, but worth the effort.

HikingGreat!

Excellent hike - the mountain lake at the top is worth every step, as it is stunning! We had 7 hikers, age range 14 to 50. Very doable but agree with others that it is more moderate than easy. Trail is naturally quite rocky - be sure to have proper hiking shoes for this one. Not being from the area, the drive up to the trailhead is...well...adventurous. Be prepared for a slow drive those last five miles. We dipped our feet in the lake and took in the majestic scenery...absolutely loved it!
