Really like this hike. Fairly shaded in the forest for most of the way up. Nice scenery wile ascending through the forest but where this hike really shines is at the lookout on top of Stahl Peak. You can see forever in all directions. Nice little lookout shelter with a wood stove and windows all around. You could actually stay the night here if you were so inclined. Funny Marmots ( I call them whistle pigs) on some rock faces just before reaching the top. The hike out and back is actually 7.5 miles long, not 5 as listed.

Super easy leisure trail around the lake. Trail is easy/flat/wide enough you could push a stroller on it, or take young kids on a slow meander.

Trail isn't accessible early in the season because of snow, watch for big rocks in the road on the way up/down. Drive Slow!

One of my favorite trails in the Ten Lakes Area, 360 views at the top and if you get there early enough you can spend the night in the old fire lookout. Most of the trail is pretty easy, and there some shade but once you leave the trees you'll want something to cover your head/face!

A great hike, the view at the top is well worth the effort

Family friendly trail with benches, bridges, and leisure hiking, beautifully maintained.
Campsites, parking and road to lake.

Best used between June - September
Restricted access due to longer snow season due to elevation and depending on weather patterns.

walk the ridge for even more beautiful views

Some of the best hiking in MT outside of GNP! Very alpine, ridges, steeps and lakes with many year around streams/creeks and an excellent trail system all for free. Abutting the 49th parallel, this area offers lots of wildlife, back-country cabins and huge unspoiled wilderness. Can't say enough of this area....but one thing I will remind is to pack out more than you pack in and carry bear spray as you will probably encounter moose multiple times as well as both bear species....really a wild country! Enjoy responsibly!

Beautiful 7-15 mile hike depending on the variations of the trail you take. Definitely a moderate class hike. Plan to take ALL day. Had an unexpected turn when we were on the last three miles of our day. Trail was completely Impassable due to a washout and had to backtrack and take alternate route back to car. This turned a 12 mile hike into a 21 mile hike. Advise checking with NFS station in Eureka to verify trail condition before leaving.

Campgrounds and fishing on nearby lakes. Definitely are in "Big Sky Country" up there!
