Steep but worth it!

Nice short hike. Two complaints. Dog poop on the trail and leafy spurge everywhere. It’s going to look like Missoula before too long. Need to get some insects on the spurge.

it definitely is a killer hike. It took me 2 hours and 10 min. I was the only person up Baldy that night, I hiked passed it for a half mile turned around and hid the little tree to get away from the super wind. I waited for sunset for 30min- within that 30min, I cried, I shouted, I feel betrayed from someone I trusted for 3 years. I am a "Leave no trace person" I left a pair of earrings, you are welcome to have it. my ex boyfriend give it to me when we started dating, I had a lot of compliments about it. I had to let it go. When i came down it was already dark, sunset was 9:15 and I came down with headlamps on after 2.5miles, I made it to my car at 10:34pm. Baldy is such an amazing hike/run for training the Rut run. And I'm doing it again once or twice a week.

This has to be the most beautiful hike I have ever done! We saw at least 8-10 waterfalls—all with their own unique beauty. Fair warning, there is a lot of mud and the trail is completely snow covered for the last mile or so still. Luckily, we had footprints and this app to use when the footprints ran out. The last pass over the Hyalite creek (between the top waterfall and the second to the top) is completely over flowing and not the safest to cross at the moment. You might be able to cross it if you’re feeling adventurous and don’t have a dog with you like we did. Even though we weren’t able to make it fully to the lake, the views from right below it of the valley are absolutely breath taking! Well worth the wet shoes, socks, and pants. Fair warning, we did fall through snow up to our hip at points. So be prepared!

Recommend: gloves for the top; change of socks and shoes for when you’re done; hiking poles (we didn’t use them and it would have helped!)

This trail was slightly steep and paved all the way up to the falls. Construction was being done at the top causing trail blockage for short periods of time. The falls were beautiful with a lovely view of the valley between the trees.

Beautiful trail!! Flowers are abundant on the top and so fragrant!! My only complaint was the amount of full poop bags that were just left on the trail, doesn't that defeat the purpose of having one? Pack it in, you MUST pack it out, come on people!!

The first four miles of the trail are a little muddy, and then trail turns entirely to snow and gets tricky to follow about a mile or so from the lake. Beautiful for hiking if you are willing to get a little damp & snowy, but needs to melt out more before it's good for running all the way up to the lake.

on M Trail

The hike up the ‘M’ was great. The views and flowers were spectacular. Since I’m not a huge hiker and not it perfect shape, I felt this hike was strenuous. I was determined to get to the M though— it took me about 50 minutes going the longer trail. It was definitely worth it and I was so glad I made it to the top!

Beautiful , easy hike up slight grade. Had a 5 and 7 year old with me and they had no problem at all. Green fields and tall trees. Super easy to get to from Bozeman .

Did this with my 13 yr old son on Father’s Day. Rained the entire hike and so windy at the top that we could barely stand! All in all, very beautiful, lots of flowers, but unfortunately it was so cloudy that we had very little visibility and really no views. It was an accomplishment just to make it. That last half mile is a doozie!

A majority of the path is paved with a gradual incline. Nice short hike with a breathtaking waterfall at the end. Beautiful!!

Went very early on a weekday and it was a quiet hike with solitude. Views on the way to the falls are just as beautiful as the falls itself. Short and easy hike.

This is a wonderful hike. Beautiful alpine meadows. Crystal springs and finally grand mountain views. But if the M trail is rated moderate, how can a ten miler with close to 3500 feet gain fall into the same category?

I hiked this trail today! Its a good little after work climb to calm down from the day

I fell a couple miles short of the lake before I turned around (talked to others at the trailhead who did the same) there's still a considerable amount of snow/it was too deep for me. Wear boots, the way up is gorgeous and challenging for hikers wanting to get into better shape!

I blithely skipped past all the reviews saying "this is the hardest trail I have ever done" because I consider my self a pretty experienced hiker. I have hiked Half Dome. I have hiked Blackmoore. Garnnet lookout. NONE of them were as hard as this. It's practically straight up straight down. I thought I was going to pop a lung on the way up and the way down wasn't much better because I'm pretty sure I'm going to lose a toenail. Plus it's windy. And I mean REALLY windy. I had to take off my hat and strap my backpack down tighter. My dog almost got blown over. At one point I spit and I'm pretty sure it hit Bridger Canyon rd. I passed all FOUR false summits (That's right, where the pole is and the registration box is NOT the summit, it's like 3 away from that). When I got back to the box to write my name in, my fingers were so stiff and cold from all the wind that I took up 3 lines and it looked like a toddler wrote it. Try Sacajawea. Try Bangtail. Try something that's not a complete staircase of a trail with "great views" that you can't even see through the sweat pouring into your eyes.

Had amazing views and not too far away from Bozeman! The trail was also fairly easy to hike.

Great trail with amazing views. Make sure you go all the way to the top. Has a picnic table and views on the back side of the mountain.

Great views at the lake, but getting up was sorta difficult due to the trail being snowed over, but if you follow the creek, you'll find it, very worth it (btw went on June 8 was still snowy)

Heavily trafficked but great views of the valley. Lots of different options to choose from which is awesome.

Heavily trafficked but quick and easy to do! Pretty views on top.

Fun little hike that makes you feel like you’re in nature and “out of town” right in town! Lots of off/side trails so directions can get confusing. But you can make it what you want, short and sweet or about 4 Miles tops.

Triple tree is quick and easy with great views of the Bridgers and the valley. Love this little hike, it’ll always be a favorite. Watch out for mud in the spring.

Pretty decent trail! Lots of variety such as switchbacks and up and down flowy trail parts. Lots of pretty views and wildflowers. Watch out for mountain bikers. Best time to go would be earlier morning. I didn’t see anyone the first half of my hike. The old mining shack at the top was a pleasant surprise.

Great hike, 4 miles round trip to the lookout. High snowpack up top still. I had the trail to myself today.

Visited on 6/9/18. The trailhead is not yet accessible by vehicle as there is still snow/ice. However, you can drive to a parking area about 2.5 miles from the trailhead and then walk. The road is in pretty bad shape but is just barely doable in a sedan if you take it really slow. This is an awesome trail with great views, however it is easy to lose the path in the snow. Still, many others have hiked this trail recently and you can follow their footsteps up.
