This hike is one of the most challenging but most rewarding hikes in the area! Views from the top are incredible, and views from the start of Bone Crusher up are also great. DO NOT follow the map on AllTrails to summit the mountain, take the Bone Crusher trail (which starts at the top of the Swift Current ski lift) to the peak. The trail will seem to stop being so visible, but just follow the ridge line up and your going the right direction!

This hike offered some good views and wild flowers along the way, but nothing spectacular compared to others in the area. It is also extremely unmarked and super easy to get onto the wrong trail. Highly recommend tracking the hike with this app to make sure you stay on the right trail.

The trail deserves at least three stars for excellent views of Lone Peak, Spanish Peaks, and the Gallatin Crest. It loses because it’s one of the most poorly marked forest service trails I’ve hiked.

Most importantly - do NOT follow the alltrails map. We did not upload our recording since we went up the alltrails trail up but took the way down recommended by others. We took the swift current chairlift up 2 miles and were then recommended to take bone crusher up to the trail. We took the all trails trail up which is not a trail. If not doing the chairlift, we were told to take moose tracks to bone crusher and then up lone mountain and to take the same way down. Lone mountain was made entirely of shale rocks and felt unstable to walk on. This hike is definitely not for those afraid of heights or unsteadiness. We were told the 'actual trail' is supposedly new and definitely not broken in. We encountered several others on the trail so we knew we were going the right way after going up the wrong way. Ropes were along the ridge but were not secured for grabbing. On the way down (on the way we were instructed to go up) there was more shale rock and a lot of three-point climbs but it was manageable. The experience was worth the hike but hoping that the 'new trail' the locals talked about gets more broken in for others so its a little less sketchy on the rocks.

Very open hike with meadows and lots of wildflowers that were beautiful. We were the only ones on the hike and the trail has a very narrow path so would definitely recommend bear spray and long pants if you have any. A very easy-moderate hike that was good for an afternoon stroll while looking for some incline with good views!

Pretty steady incline the whole way up, and the views keep getting better. We went in early July, so the wildflowers in the meadows were abundant and beautiful. Our dog loved this hike and we did too

Lots of wild flowers and nice views. The trail was easy to follow but lots of horse poop. Surprised it is rated Moderate. 3.6 miles but mostly flat or gradual grades and very few rocks. When comparing with other hikes in the Big Sky area, I would rate this one easy for sure. Also there is no real trailhead for parking at least based on the directions. We just parked on a pullout.

Beautiful views

I followed this route and around half way up it goes off the trail. It was cool though found the mineral lick.

Trail from Lava Lake to first ridge was very easy to find, but snow (3-10 inches) obscured the trail after 8,000 feet (10/1/17)

Awesome hike. Took Moose Tracks to Bone Crusher then up. Bone Crusher ended but it's pretty obvious where to continue. Up to the tram station. There's been brutal fire around lately so because of smoke, I hitched a ride back with the tram (as seen on the route), then hiked the South Service Rd to the base for the sake of time. Do not do this if you're afraid of heights, have vertigo, or dislike shear drop offs on both sides of a fairly narrow trail. Coming down would have been brutal if not for the tram.

Boring hike. With so many better hikes in the area this ones not worth the time

Good hike. A little scrambling involved for 75 yds on ridge and towards the top due to steepness. Great views. Not recommended for dogs.

Awesome trail! Spend most of trail above Lava Lake above the Tree line so the views are spectacular. The trail is slightly obscure near the top but cairns easily guide the hiker. Lots of elevation gained but totally worth it.

We hiked in from Big Sky to Lava Lake, ended up being 25 miles or so. It was pretty up on Table Mountain and welcomed flat area!

Really beautiful but extremely overgrown. Almost no trail with wild flowers and plants above shoulders
