Great trail for a quick hike! Only negative is in fall the leaves cover the trail a little!

spider webs everywhere. good short hike with some cool bluff views of the river below. I would say this would be a better hike in late fall early winter when all the leaves are off the trees.

Trail well maintained, great overlooks.

The trail is beautiful and well maintained. It was barely trafficked when I hiked in April. The river views were amazing. The trail crosses numerous points where springs flow downhill, some potentially significant flows. In the spring and after a rain, these points will be wet and likely soak your shoes. There is a pretty good descent into a spring basin and then climb back out that my out of shape self had to take very slowly. If you just want the views and not the hard work, walk the trail clockwise and turn around at the boardwalk.

A Missouri favorite for the views and pretty trees and the trail is actually maintained. It is a busy area, but still worth a visit.

Beautiful views of the Osage with benches and viewing platforms. No trail blazes but the path is well worn and easy to keep track of. I went counter clockwise so bear views were toward the end as was the steady incline.

Great little trail with overlooks of the Osage river. Well maintained, well layed out. I would hike counter clockwise.

Great trail for beginners. The middle section is steep but not horribly so. You will most likely have the trail to yourself.

Beautiful, easy trail right on the river.

An excellent trail that is another stop on the Great Missouri Birding Trail. A free MDC pamphlet available at the start of the trail has information about different points along the trail such as an Indian burial cairn that local legend says was a great chief’s burial mound built 500-1500 years ago. The right portion of the loop (north) is wide and flat and goes by the burial cairn before reaching an overlook deck that has breathtaking views up and down the Osage River. A beautiful Bald Eagle was gliding on thermals above the river when we were there. The left (south) portion of the loop is narrower and has steeper grades than the north loop. It isn’t in quite as good a shape as the north loop and follows along the bluff for a ways before turning deeper into the forest on its way back to the trailhead. There are a couple of scenic overlooks of the river on the south loop of the trail including one called the South Overlook that sits on top of a 140 foot cliff. This deck provides more great views of the river and of the picturesque farm across the river. It also looks over an Eastern red cedar that is at least 600 years old. A Black Widow spider guarding its egg sack was a highlight of the trail on the way back to the trailhead. What a great trail!

Such a pretty hike! Went in January, but can’t wait to see it in spring and summer when everything is lush and the river is fuller.

Great view

Great trail.

Really cool short hike. Great views from up on the bluffs. Go off the trail and explore the narrow path below the bluff.
