Foristell, Missouri Map

Well defined trail. Easy but good variation. Beautiful.

This is a review of the Cannon Trail. The trailhead is at the opposite end of the parking lot from the pavilion which is next to the creek. There are no blazes but the path is well-defined and all intersections are properly posted. The trail is almost all earthen with very few areas with small rocks.

At just over 6 miles per my GPS track, this trail is much improved over my last hike here about 3 years ago. I hiked it counterclockwise this time which starts off quite flat while the trail follows Big Creek.

If you've driven the loop around the park (I recommend you do that first for orientation), you know that the front section is the low elevation and the back is the higher elevation. Hiking CCW makes the ascent more gradual but there are no steep ascents in either direction. This is a fairly gentle topography.

Kids should have no trouble on this trail. All the same, the trail is never far from points where you can easily "bail out" to the loop road running through the park. At those points you will often find additional parking areas with modern vault toilets and water fountains usable in season.

Great trail to hike with lots to see. Horses also use the trial and there was a tremendous amount of manure on the trail today. More than I've ever seen on this trail

Nice easy terrain, mostly shade.

I love this trail! Note that the water in the bathrooms at the back of the trail is NOT for drinking. Watch out for horse dookie. There’s a great variety of terrain and views and it’s a very fun trail to run.

good trail for a recovery run or anyone wanting to try trail running, whether you have logged road miles or not. either running the whole trail or a run/walk combo, this is a relatively flat trail, both wide and single track; some roots and rocks but nothing too technical. crosses the park road a few time so anyone wanting to bail has some options. I did the cannon trail for 5.5 miles. the alltrails map for 6.9 miles is a combo of cannon and one other.

Beautiful scenery

Hiked 10.5 miles on multiple trails - had a great variety of trails

Beautiful mix of scenery along the trail. Good amount of hills for a great workout and a great amount of flat terrain for a more relaxed walk.

Love this trail. I bike it as often as possible. St Charles County has fantastic parks.

Absolutely love this park and its trails. Great place to trail run, ride bikes, hike, enjoy the cool water and plenty of great shelters for family events. The Big Creek entrance at Shelter 1 is perfect for a great day with little kids. If we'd ever get some good snow, this would be a great place to cross country ski!

This was my first hike here and I loved the trail through fields and woods. I saw hikers, mountain bikers, horseback riders, and joggers on the 5.6 mile hike called Cannonball, or something like that. Afterward I went in a silo for a view of the park and photo opportunity. Then curiosity over families, mostly, in swimming attire, led me to the creek access to find people set up to stay in the crystal clear river where children can wade in the water. I was just checking off another hike when I started but when I left I knew that I would return here with a plan for the entire day.

Great trail for mountain biking. Facilities if needed, trail well maintained. Lost a walkie talkie there, so finders keepers...

I really enjoyed this trail. Scenery changed so didn't get bored. Can be muddy after rains.

great trail, lots of wildlife

Love this trail and park

Nice essentially flat trail with many opportunities to stop at a picnic table as the Cannon trail winds around the park. Multiple spots to access the trail just about from any parking lot.

I prefer a bit more remove (feeling) trails but this trail is well maintained and has lots of options for adding or removing sections depending upon your interest.

Great county park. choice of walking the pavement which will provide aerobic exercise without getting your feet dirty or you can walk trails which provide a more rigorous workout. Nice trails to the creek where your dogs can cool off on a hot summer day.

Great trail, keep your eyes open for bikes and horse poop but a good trail close to home

Awesome trail and hike. Had a doe and a fawn within feet of me. Some of the secondary trails were closed due to recent flooding but overall a very good hike.

Great trail for running. The main trail is the Cannon Loop Trail, which is actually only 6-miles. Great switch back and change of footing and direction. Winds through woods, open field and several park road crossing. Never far from the park road that loops the park.

Absolutely gorgeous. Several trails from 1/2 to 5 1/2 miles. Observation tower. Fishing lake. Playgrounds, one right next to the fantastic swimming hole at the entrance. Everything eco-friendly. The trails roll through river valleys of birch and some sort of emerald undergrowth (I don't know all my plants). Vines hang from the canopy like a rainforest. Our favorite park in St. Charles County. They know how to run a park.

Fun trails, quick with some technical areas to it. Only issue is the mass amount of horse poop you have to dodge. Trails are also used for Horseback Riding so they get pretty choppy since horse riders don't care they go when it rains.

Good rural park with short and long trails including 7 mile cannon loop. Cannon Loop is 80% woods with varying elevation.
