The waterfall from the old mill is beautiful but there is not much of a hiking trail and no signs telling you which direction anything is. Pretty outdated and needs some work.

Hit this trail about a year back. Maybe it’s because we went when we did, but this was one of the most awful trails I’ve ever done. They had so many people, which is fine usually. I guess the amount of people attracted so many bugs? They had hundreds of sand flies. Swarming us like we disturbed a bee nest. I have friends that didn’t have the same experience, but i doubt I’ll return just in case. The elevation coming back to the parking lot is pretty rough. Save up your energy for that.

Love these trails!! Main trail is nice and flat. Plenty of side trails to explore as well.

Generally fine, but the part managed by the Boy Scouts is not great right now. Trees down in 2 places, so I had to use the map on the app to get back on trail. Also, there is 1 part of the wooded trail that veers off to the right & you think it's going somewhere, but it doesn't. You just have to walk across the grass to the paved path.

I'm new to mountain biking. Just got new bikes for my son and I. Nothing too extreme. Little of all terrain. Gravel, mud at times, much shade. You can choose shorter trails if you like. I think this was a good trail to get used to the activity. I would like to see management clean up the dirt dawber nest at the entrance of the trail where the map is located.

Heavily wooded. Lots of spider webs you have to walk through. Don’t see them until you hit them! Great trail. My dogs loved it.

Overall good hike - you could trail run if you wanted. Left 1 star off because there are some areas that are not very clear as to which direction the trail continues or to exit. Very quiet and enjoyable afternoon. FYI the trail continues near the park rangers residence in which they have one “ankle biter” dogs (lol no I didn’t get bit but she was having a fit).

Northern trailhead was fairly easy to find. There are signs on MS-553 that directed me down a dirt road to the parking lot. Phone and gps did not have service here, so I relied on directions in my memory. Worth looking up on the map beforehand. The trail itself is fascinating. The soil can be soft. There were a few large puddles on the trail, but not too bad considering it has been raining the past 5 days. The trail was overgrown with brush, but there was always a semblance of a path through it. There were A LOT of ticks- I pulled about 20 off of myself and 30 off of my dog- so be vigilant with tick checks! The two creek crossings were surprisingly low (again, 5 days of rain!). Blowdowns near the creek crossings made orienting a little tricky, it just took some patience and time. There were a lot of blowdowns throughout the trail, which is a shame since the surrounding ecosystem is so delicate. There were a handful of social paths around each blowdown. All in all, I think if I return it will be in winter. The canopy cover made hiking in the summer bearable, but the brush and ticks added an extra layer of hassle.

Nice walk up the dirt road to the top. Highly recommend the 2 mile up and down rather than just driving up!

I would recommend this trail to beginners. Very nice views of the marsh. This is a good area for riding bicycles. The tails in the woods would be better if they were longer and not a “back and fourth” type trail. Lots of informative signs about the wildlife and park.

Beautiful trail, well marked, fun little trail for a family with younger children or anyone just starting out.
