Beautiful hike! We went April 21 just a week after there had been a snow storm that dropped 8-12” in the area, so lots of snow covered trail. We didn’t do the whole trail as we were not prepared for that, but would definitely like to try again when the snow is gone.

Modérate hike with wonderful views. Spring sun was wonderful

Incredible view of the lakes! Awesome hike.

Amazing views and great way to spend a day or overnight.

Beautiful trails and waterfalls!

Beautiful trails and waterfalls!

The terrain is really muddy right now, but the views are phenomenal! May be the best view I've ever seen hiking in MN.

Muddy. A good out and back day hike

I still want to give it a 4 only because I know it has to be a beautiful trail! I was bummed out that I had to turn around pretty early because of the mud. Never got to the lakes or even the first camp. Heads up it's muddy!

nice views from parking to lakes; I would call it "difficult" for most other than experienced rugged terrain hikers.

Lots of stairs:). great trip to the waterfall. the hanging bridge is a photo spot and a swim upstream towards the falls is worth the walk.

fun trail there is a cool waterfall at the first campsite a a steep hill down to Bear Lake but a nice view not very good group camping spots at Bear Lake

This is a wonderful hike with beautiful views. Be sure to take the trail down to the river and catch the beautiful photo ops.

Highly recommend this portion of the trail, challenging in some areas, and it has some great views

very beautiful hike!! if you want the trails and views to yourself I recommend getting out there pretty early during the weekends! great backpack camping spots too! happy hiking! :)

One of my favorite spots on the SHT!

great views once the hike is over.... muddy and visible water puddles along the way, so dress appropriately

First real hiking trip. Best time of my life. Went in late fall a few years ago. It was cold camping over night but the views were incredible and you worked up a sweat to see them. A must see.

One of my favorite runs; stunning views with bluffs protecting the lakes. Rolling trees as far as the eye can see.

Absolutely awesome. Nice mix of deep forest, higher elevation with views and lake/creek side stuff.

This trail was seriously beautiful, but my wife and I turned back after about four miles of muck in mid June. We came a couple of days post rain, and were sad to see that there were long, long spells of mud patches without stepping logs or stones. We made it through a bunch, and finally elected to turn back with our mud soaked shoes. Hope to come back and fulfill the full loop sometime soon!

Doesn't get any better than this one. North Shore beauty at it's finest...all seasons

Great hike on a beautiful day. Stunning overlooks of bean and bear lakes.

This is a great trail, I have hiked Yosemite, the Grand Canyon, Zion , etc. this is on that grand level, especially if you can hike it during fall colors, which is early October.

Really like this trail. A few tougher stretches along the way, but the views from the High Falls are definitely worth it!

Great scenery--falls are just as nice as Gooseberry but hiking is moderately harder. Trails are nice. Could use updated way finding as many signs are becoming hard to read. They are apparently doing trail maintenance and in those areas the trail was drier--other areas were very wet and muddy because of erosion and lack of gravel cover. Beautiful visitor center. Saw several bird species and amazing fungus and mushrooms everywhere. Be prepared to do a lot of ups and downs--lots of stairs. I saw folks hiking in tennis shoes but I was glad to have the ankle support of my heavy hiking boots.

Fantastic quick hike. Park at the visitor center and have miles of hiking around you. Kaiaking routes available to.

Beautiful hike! Moderate to difficult with lots of ups and downs. Incredible lunch spot up at the top!

Access to Sawmill Dome from Little Marais Road (Lake County Rd 6) is two miles west of our home. We hike this portion of the Superior Hiking Trail often. Ascent is steep from County Rd 6, about 200 feet in 1/4 mile. Steep ups and downs the whole route to MN Highway 1 near Illgen City. Worth the effort. Another wonderful access point is from Wolf Ridge Environmental Leaning Center, near Finland, Minnesota. Several trails branch off from the ELC access.

I've backpacked and camped this part of the trail twice. both times it was in early spring and even without much leaf cover it was lovely. Challenging and dramatic in its views and terrain. You go from the top of mount trudy to valleys of beautiful trees then back up to cliffs overlooking the lakes. I recommend going south from Tetegouche state park to silver bay so you can do mount Trudy early on when you have the energy. Either a short backpacking trip or a long day trip, either way it's amazing.
