Did this hike on 11/16/18. It was 20 degrees with roughly 4” of snow and it was snowing, a slow snow globe like snow. Beautiful! Lots of moose and deer tracks but never saw any wildlife. Trail was rocky in places but it was covered with snow. The places you had to cross over water were not frozen and the planking was covered with snow so you needed to be cautious, only slid off once. Was wearing my Sorels so I never had to worry about wet feet. The hike had a few steep areas but the view, before the actual summit was breathtaking. It looked so amazing with the trees snow covered. Pictures didn’t do justice. We were in and out in 3 and a half hours.

It was a long and little hard trail. We didn’t have any snacks to help with the hike. We got very hungry.

Beautiful!

Scenic and well maintained urban path

I really like the trail it's nice for a guy that just started mountain bike riding

Beautiful walk with waterfall

This lake has been officially renamed to its Dakota name: Bde Maka Ska. Busy on beautiful days, but two paved lanes - so bikers don’t have to dodge walkers and vice versa. It has one of the loveliest views of lake in the fairground and the city in the back.

Nice trail but could use some more maps.

This is an amazingly flowy trail!!!

trail running

Ran with my dog on trail in early November. Trail was nice except for a couple spots that had mud that we could easily get around. There was also some construction at trail head by Cedar Avenue. It looked to be almost complete with a nice new parking area. I would use again.

Did this trail on 10.27.18 in the later afternoon. Trails were muddy and slippery, but a lovely hike it was! Wonderful variety of terrain, including some stairs and various uphill/downhill climbs. If you’re not a hiker, this may not be the trail for you; trekking poles recommended. If you’re a hiker, this trail is more long than it is challenging. We finished in about 2.5 hours. We are of average health, frequent hikers, and are in our late 20’s-early 30’s.

I wouldn’t describe it as hard, more easy to moderate. Definitely very rocky for long stretches but the incline was gentle and not strenuous. Pretty views just shy of the summit. Actual summit is just a plaque - no views. Brought two small dogs and they dominated it but were very tired afterwards. A few stream crossing were a little underwater but definitely do-able. Worth checking out for the fresh air, gorgeous lake views, and an enjoyable time in nature.

This is a quick and easy hike with plenty of photo opportunities! The suspension bridge is very cool!

Open views of the river. No mosquitos in mid October. Only negative is the graffiti on the quarry sites

It's an OK trail. pretty straight the whole way. Goes along the south side of Black dog lake. Comes out by the xcel energy plant. Able to see some birds and possibly otters.

Great area to see frogs, birds, old farms, and other animals. Be careful of weather, area gets flooded easily with heavy rainfall. nice wetland area to hike around

on Hidden Falls Trail

Not much of a challenge. Ground, mostly level walking surface. Interesting views off trail near the river. Interior all trees. Some large downed trees across the path in several places to maneuver around/over/under.

The trail was fine, there was no moose though. There is a super cool car in the woods though!

Banning State Park is one of my favorites! Really enjoyed the river and the beautiful tall trees❤️ wonderful place to go show shoeing!

Incredibly easy trail that is wheel chair accessible. Went on a cloudy rainy day would have loved to seen the bay more!

Obvious warning: the rock is slippery when wet. Saw a few Canadian Greys, no moose or deer or beavers, but the trail was nice! The view was nice too!

The trail was wet and mucky because it had rained the night before but this is a great hike. It’s a decent incline for a Minnesota trail. The trails are for horses and hiking so I assume you will see horses during the summer months. Bring extra shoes if it’s mucky!

Beautiful crisp fall day. The Mt. Tom trail was just right amount of climbing and views. There probably could be a few more signs marking trail intersections. Will definitely be back to this trail!!

Great hiking trails.

nice view. full loop is about 5mi. all paved except for a small section of bridge over a swamp. Vet Memorial is really cool to check out.

Excellent escape into the wilds of northern Minnesota. Great campsites for small tents. I recommend a freestanding tent as some of the sites have little area to set spikes as they are located on rock facia. Bring good hiking shoes too as some of the portages can be rugged and mucky. Nothing more ironic than getting foot blisters on a canoe trip.

The directions to this trail are incorrect coordinates

It needs to be maintained more, but it’s an awesome place to escape!
