Convenient, quick, and quiet

The little island is my favorite part.

Love coming here in every season.

I great place to walk around sunset. I got some lovely photos of the sunset and saw a few beavers. The walking paths into the woods are my favorite. Very muddy in spring.

The wildlife you see along the way is exciting! I saw several woodpeckers, a dozen deer including two baby, and a bunch of wild turkeys. Only encountered a few people on my walk. It is peaceful and feels like your up north.

It's so pleasant to hear the rushing water while you're walking!

Great for snowshoeing

Nice short loop.

been there a lot. tends to be buggy. however. there is wildlife. it's a good walk with some nice hills. I've spent an hour to 4 hours there. it's quiet. no city or traffic noise.

Can’t wait for this trail to open back up in May!

Great trail for biking, running, and walking. In the winter it’s plowed from YMCA to Weagel Park (1.75 miles from Y). From Y to the edge of Rapidan is 6 miles. Beautiful trail and paved the whole way.

WOODTICKS!!!!!!!! This trail was beautiful, but I pulled close to 50 woodticks/deerticks from myself and my dog after this hike. We stayed on the trail, I wore appropriate clothing, and we still got covered! Beware!

Absolutely love this trail. It’s definitely a hidden gem in Elk River.

not to be trusted,,, people lurking,, wanting to reach out and grab,,, especially children,,, sickning !!!

Great day hiking. Trails are icy. You need ice cleats.

My favorite place

Great fairly easy trail along the river.

Have hiked it in all seasons. Good place to train for an off road trail race. Lots of families near the nature center during the day, but the trail is pretty empty of people around sundown. Seen wild deer and turkeys.

Mostly paved even terrain on this loop. Picturesque row of pines.

Jumps and dirt all a guy could want

We took this trail… Wait, what trail? My sister-in-law, myself, and my four-year-old nephew decided to take this trail because of the nice reviews and simplicity the description stated. Let’s fast-forward one hour into it…
We didn’t know if we’d make it home that day, after the carcass we stumbled upon, the thousands of thorns scraping our skin, and the complete exhaustion and panic of not finding the trail that supposed to be guiding us, we just hope those who decide to take this path of death think twice or make sure the Park service has combed the trail they say exists here. There were no trail markers, all of a sudden we were in the middle of nowhere only to struggle to find our way home on 17% cell battery.

This is a moderate to seldom-used Trail, so it is great to let your dogs run and to observe wildlife and explore nature.

Easy and nice loop around pike island. Hiking shoes a must right now as it’s pretty muddy and slick in areas. Enjoyed getting out today and excited for spring. Easy parking as well. Make sure to get vehicle day or annual pass and have it out on dash.

Enjoyable hike. Hiked 4.5 miles with my dog. Trail is mostly a horse trail. So dogs can't use it. Not sure what policy is when trail is closed to horses. Will be messy when snow melts so suggest doing it before spring thaw. Saw two bald eagle. Would suggest going in on Grimm road and using parking access there because of paved parking. For this trail follow the Kings trail signs. Sure it would be beautiful in spring and summer also. But remember dogs are not allowed on horse trails. Great overviews and a few picnic tables on trail. Will be going on my do again list. ALWAYS WALKABOUT!!!

Metal cleats made the hike an awesome day

This is one of my favorite trails. It is very peaceful and serene. Good for all skill levels and something for everyone. You are surrounded by nature and wildlife with the options of different paths.

Nice, easy trail. We seen a lot of wildlife. The turkeys were in the tree's. We also seen eagles and deer.
