Great snowshoeing trail that follows the river.

One of the best running paths I’ve ever run on. The scenery is great, the path is long- great for marathon training! Running, walking, roller blading, bicycling! In the summer, in canal park you can rent different types of bicycles. It is very dog friendly!

the perfect short city hike!

Quick hike. Good for light walking/hiking in the summer. A tad slippery in the winter.

Tucked away on the north end of Duluth, this was a pleasant hike. The views were beautiful and at times peaceful. It was a fairly high trafficked area, perhaps it was the day. Trail comes complete with various terrains, flowing water, and a nice waterfall. We hiked this with our family, a five year old and an English bulldog (who by no means was built for the great outdoors,) and all managed nicely. This trail is worth seeking out. (Hiked April/2015)

This was a fun and easy jaunt along one of Lake Superior’s sandier shorelines. My 5 year old at the time had no trouble navigating the trail under the pines, and we were all thrilled to explore the beach and the driftwood structures left by others. Great bird watching, if you take a moment to lift your gaze. (Hiked April/2015)

A great place to hike year round. Definitely wear spikes in the winter, the trek up and down at the beginning and end, gets real icy! If you have someone that needs an easier trek up in the beginning, the Duluth Traverse trail has a good path up with some switchbacks to break up the elevation. Beautiful sights, a neat hardwood Forrest with a lot of interesting vegetation to check out too!

Had a great hike today- well packed down, snowshoes not needed unless you want to walk the river, or off trail. At about 1.3 miles in we might’ve wanted our snowshoes but it was ok. We turned around at 1.7 to head back.

A great beautiful afternoon!!

For snow shoeing this trail was fabulous. We went right after a 6” snowfall that was on top of 12”+ of snow from the previous week. The only down fall is the parking. Did a quick shovel to get the truck off the road and we were good to go.

buggy with no scenery

if I recall correctly, the mileage is less than what is posted here

This is a nice trail for running through the middle of Duluth. There are a lot of steps that get pretty slippery in the winter so make sure you wear grippy boots/shoes.

FYI, this trail is called Willard Munger State Trail, not William. This may cause confusion for people looking for it.

Was nice but tweaked me ankle

Bubbling brooks, deep woods, beautiful overlooks, breathtaking in Autumn

Trail is becoming overgrown by tall grass. It’s also very difficult to follow as there are not cross country ski trails & mountain biking trails that cross over it in several places. Epilepsy who previously commented about seeing bikers were likely on the amity west trail instead.

Great hike. you can go for a long hike. more bikers than hikers.

I really enjoy the lake walk (the 3.5 miles by the waterside). I recommend going early enough to see the sun rise.

A nice hike with views of surrounding greater Duluth area, industry, and natural areas.

This is not a hike but a long walk. Only 3 miles of the trail is along the water the rest is along a main road with lots of traffic. Don’t think I’ll do the part not along water again.

Trail in great condition. Wonderful views of harbor and some terrific time in woods. Going beyond the SHTA Loop Trail brings in a very nice hike along a creek gorge.

Nice well kept hiking trail that goes in a loop around the creek. Creek was low so you could climb out on all the rocks. Picnic tables in shade by parking lot, no bathrooms. Good trail for kids and dogs.

fairly easy loop trail. Many intertwined mountain bike and ski trails so know which one you are on.

This trail is nice and smooth. If you want some fun mountain biking, get off the paved path and cycle it out to the overlook on Upper Triangle! Fun trail and great view.

You can run, walk, or even road bike the lake walk. Currently it's under construction due to a severe storm this past year that tore it apart so a small piece of it is blocked off but you can still get through! Just have to share the way with bicyclists. I've spent my whole life on this lake walk enjoying it and it never gets old.

just repaved and extremely pretty.
