Cottage Grove, Minnesota Map

If you’re going to hike on the shoreline of the west side of the lake be aware of sloppy and narrow trail. Trail is not well mapped at some junctions.

Very few people on the trails and enjoyed the quick hikes with beautiful wild flowers. Small park, but part of a large county park system. Getting the yearly sticker is worth it if you live in this county.

Pro: Apart from the parking lot, I only encountered two people (a couple) in over an hour of hiking. Con: Maybe more people would use this nice little park if they didn't charge the same fee as nearby Afton State Park. Con: The northernmost loop is fenced off (without prior warning) almost halfway in due to weed-eating goats. Pro: I got to see the goats, and share an apple with their guard donkey! Also, it was easy to hook up with the snowmobile trail to complete the loop around the fence. Con: Noise from highway 61 farther into the park than I expected. Pro: The northern half was downright peaceful. All in all, this is a great local amenity for regular visitors. The yearly pass is a good deal, especially when you can put the whole family into the Truckster. For solo travelers, however, better options exist.

Can’t wait for this trail to open back up in May!

Great trail since it was my first. Not too hard, marked well and it said it was a 2 mile loop but because of the alternative routes it was 4 miles instead. Fun times !
