Great trail.

One of the best running paths I’ve ever run on. The scenery is great, the path is long- great for marathon training! Running, walking, roller blading, bicycling! In the summer, in canal park you can rent different types of bicycles. It is very dog friendly!

Short loop. Great snow. Stay off the ski tracks

Excellent paved walking trail. I live close by and go often. Great for children to ride bikes. Beautiful except there are no unbroken views of nature. Cluttered. Preservation of unbroken natural views is not taken into consideration when placing signage, art, benches (which often face ugly views) and other manmade features. The trees in this oak savanna are distressed and poorly managed. Buckthorn, an invasive species that engulfs and kills forests is poorly managed. Dogs are not allowed on the footbridge or the island but everyone takes them over there anyway. Dog poop is problem at this park and on the trail but nothing is being done about it.

I was out briefly 2/13/19. At that time I was unaware it’s descriptions didn’t include leashed dogs. Now I do. I’ve looked at other parks that allow leashed dogs. That doesn’t exclude me from hiking here without the dogs.

This app specifically lists snowshoeing as an activity. The trails are groomed only for skiing though (beautifully I may add) but snowshoeing is prohibited. Beautiful park though.

A truly great urban hiking/snowshoeing area. Trees were snow covered but beautiful. Recommend this trail to anyone who wants some great Red River views, without having to travel so far out into the country.

Low trails still with snow, higher, open trails more sloppy snow.

Easy, flat, year round, close to the city hiking trail.

We specifically looked for snowshoeing trails. This park came up and we had been here in the summer when it was a great hiking trail. However, we came for snowshoeing and the trail is plowed and a groomed ski trail next to it. So it is not appropriate at all for snowshoeing and was highly disappointing.

Very nice Snowshoeing trail. Follows the river before a good climb up. About 4 miles in length.

Paved and kept clear of snow during winter. Sculptures. Enough activity to feel safe yet did not feel crowded. Variety open grassland, lake trail and woodland. Not so much hiking as much as walking trail.

Great trail! Able to do the whole big loop being the water is frozen enough to safely cross.

Well used wooded paved path with many birds, river fowl, boat launch, play ground, fishing and a band shell with music Thursday evenings in the summer. Bathrooms and maps available in the main building which is not always open. Walk over the newly restored dam to get on the trail to Elm Creek Park about 6 miles away? In the spring when the river is high, the southernmost area of the trail has been occasionally closed due to flooding. The above app summary is wrong where it mentioned Hastings. That town is 45 miles south of Coon Rapids. Hmmmm?

took a trip here in the fall: gorgeous and easy. again in January, slippery as shit. wear ice cleats.

Check this area out. Today I came in from the Jordan end of trail. Did 7.3 miles. Easy trail. The ice is the problem now. As it is with most trails I've been on. Trail is on River. Runs into a maze of trails that is in the Louisville swamp area. Saw no other people. Would be tough to do this trail in warmer weather because of the mud. So get out and enjoy all this area before the spring thaw. Lots of peaceful miles of trails to enjoy.

Mon Jan 14 2019

Enjoyed the hike during winter time. Be sure to not go during the icy season. All trails would be mostly covered in ice.

Mon Jan 14 2019

Quick hike. Good for light walking/hiking in the summer. A tad slippery in the winter.

A family favorite as it is close to home but quiet enough to feel removed from the hustle and bustle of “suburb/city life”. Various trails boasting different arboreal species makes this park reserve nearly impossible to tire of, and perfect for an afternoon stroll through the woods. Yes, certain times of the year are more dreadful for flies, but it can be alleviated with adjusting your plans to come in a different season to avoid this annoyance.

Another beautiful south-central Minnesota trek. Wildflowers and river hills bring this hike to life and it’s not impossible to imagine what this land looked like before touched by humans. Be sure to save time for the falls. Up on the hill is the mill, which offers a serene spot for a rest and overlook of Minnesota’s river valley. We haven’t been back since the bison arrived, so this may effect trails. (Hiked: A few times between 2005-2015)
