Gorgeous, tons of birds to see, as well as beavers and muskrats.

Trails are well-marked with lots of little paths down to the water's edge. Short and easy, but there's lots to see.

Very pretty, good elevation changes.

Watch out for poison ivy along the trail. It's not tremendously prolific right now but there are vines and shoots all over the place, it'll only get worse as it gets warmer.

Nice trails with a little of everything, woods, meadows, lake and river. I've hike it several times and other than a little mud and flooding in the spring, no complaints.

Great 5.5 mike hike from trailhead and back. The dunes are cool and the small beach at the tip of the tail is breathtaking for a Kansan. Saw no one on the trail and my dog loved the sand.

Peaceful indeed! Quite decent elevation changes for a moderate.

I saw eastern bluebirds, but there was a lot of noise on the north side from a neighboring excavation of some kind off of Bolt Drive.

This trail is pretty awesome! Everything is very well maintained and the trails are clearly marked! One of the scenic overlooks was closed due to a high water level but the other two were beautiful. Your feet will probably get wet.

Paved pathway all the way through. Not shoveled/cleared during winter. You could come across deer, fox and on the rare occasion, a coyote/wolf. Good to take the dogs on a walk or a straightforward run in the day time. Closes at dusk.

Had a wonderful walk in the woods with the family today on this trail. It’s fairly well marked but several time we reviewed the map to make sure we were taking the right branch. The road getting to the trail was a bit soupy from the spring thaw, but the trail was fine. It’s a perfect spring or fall trail.

I can't believe this is in SE Mich. You show up to the park and suddenly there are steep hills everywhere. Love the constant elevation changes on the trails and the dense forest. Did the beach to campground hiking trail and then found the mountain biking trail and hiked that back to the beach (after checking out the scenic overlook on the bike path just past marker #4). This makes a great loop of 5 or 6 miles.

No trail markings. Muddy at times. Fairly busy.

We arrived about 11:00 am for a walk around the lake under a clear blue sky. The temp was crisp when we arrived, with the muddy trails mostly frozen. There are about a half dozen stream crossings, most with bridges. We saw only one other person on the trail. The east and south sides of the lake are the best. The rest is mostly meadow trail. Saw geese, woodpeckers and heard other birds, including redwing blackbirds.

Well marked trails. Easy to get to. Mix of paved and non-paved paths. Closer to highway than expected. Mountain bike trails look fun though.

Beautiful. A good variety of different terrain.

Great trails! More importantly though were the clean, roomy and stocked pit toilets and the discovery center has water. I enjoyed following the blue arrow trail markers and will definitely return.

Great hike! It took about 3.5 hours (including breaks and photography). We walked the opposite direction (counter clockwise) so we wouldn’t be surprised by bikers (they go clockwise). Generally, this trail is very remote and serene. We’ll be back.

However, multiple hills more difficult than a moderate hike.
The trails were nice and wide, well marked with maps and benches along the route.
Looking forward to hiking it again in the fall.

Good workout and hike but a few places were solid ice. More people than I expected, most with dogs unleashed (does anyone follow the rules?). I think will be quite busy in the warmer months. I prefer more seclusion but if you're a beach person this is nice.

This is a pretty legit trail. Lots of really nice people, beautiful scenery and trash cans places every so often. A ton of litter up near the Winchell Way apartments and the trails were poorly marked. Sorta hard to follow but luckily I had this app. I will probably return.

Trail still closed as of 3/17/18. Looked like it was due to mud as it seemed to be a well groomed trail. Bummed.

great trail for a morning hike.

Top 5 hike in Michigan for sure, if not #1 or #2. Must do it.

This is a tranquil unmarked route through a small network of wooded trails on dunes with a peek at Lake Michigan. The wildflowers in April are amazing. The ticks can be fierce, while mosquitoes and poison ivy are seasonal. In the summer, there is a parking fee.

Pretty cool little trail for hiking. Even better area for kayaking. Only drawback is the noisy campground.

Nothing compares to that moment I stepped out of the woods and saw the majestic sandstone cliffs as far as the eye could see. It was as though I had walked to the edge of the world. Lake Superior was pristine and great for a swim in the middle of the hike, and the views just got better the farther along the cliffs I hiked. The only downside was the occasional noisy tour boat.

My husband and I hiked this trail a few summers back. We drove from Iowa and got there around 1AM to hike in and set up camp. It was quite an adventure. The best part was hearing the lake as we got close. It was a beautiful sight to wake up to the next morning!

The orange loop was great, very beautiful!

Went with my man yesterday, it was a nice little social walk with pretty scenery! There's still snow left over at this time of year so we had to be careful about slipping. It was pretty, and we went by the hippie tree and took some pictures, as well as some photos in a few other spots around as well. I wasn't out of breath, and though I love more challenging hikes, this was a nice one to explore a bit and socialize with company! on a side note, it's always fun to read up on all the "horror stories" they've got on the hippie tree ;)

Beautiful little trail/boardwalk leading to the beach. Wish it wasn't $6 to park, but oh well.
