We saw a wide variety of birds along the trail. It was an easy hike with great views of the lake.

This is a pretty trail the follows along the Boardman River to the Keystone rapids head. It was a nice moderate hike. One warning, they have signs up to watch out for poison ivy. While the trails are clear of any poison ivy, there is poison ivy all around the areas near the trails

Great trails with much of the path edging the river/rapids. Beautiful woods and well-marked.

Nice wooded trail with sand and gravel pathways, great if walking with young kids. You may struggle a little bit if you bring a stroller with small wheels (like a small umbrella stroller) but we made our way along pretty well with a wagon!

Quick and easy hike. A little buggy, but not terrible. Brought both of my dogs with no issues. Should have brought a bathing suit!

this can be as long a hike as you would like. we did a two mile loop, the trail was well marked and nicely wooded!

Went with my man yesterday, it was a nice little social walk with pretty scenery! There's still snow left over at this time of year so we had to be careful about slipping. It was pretty, and we went by the hippie tree and took some pictures, as well as some photos in a few other spots around as well. I wasn't out of breath, and though I love more challenging hikes, this was a nice one to explore a bit and socialize with company! on a side note, it's always fun to read up on all the "horror stories" they've got on the hippie tree ;)

This is a great place to Kayak without worrying about a ton of people unlike the Platte River. The river at times will be a lot faster then you think and to be completely honest, this is the only time I've flipped my Kayak and I swear it was because of a rock that you can't see. Anyway's, it's an 11 mile stretch but that 11 miles is a lot longer than you think so plan accordingly. Enjoy your paddle and have fun! A lot of wild life to see also.

I grew up on Hickory Hills. I used to Frisbee Golf here daily and has one of the better views of Traverse City at the top of Hickory Hills on the hole we called "Waterfall" The only downfall to Hickory Hills these days is how crowded it is these days but that's what you get when such beauty is just a walk away. If you're not in shape, take it slow because there is definitely some Hills considering this is a skiing hill. Enjoy the outdoors and pick up after yourself!

If you’re looking to get a quick hike then this is your spot!! I grew up in the Long Lake area which is about 12 miles west of Traverse City. Long lake is absolutely stunning with very clean water. This trail is quick and during this hike you’ll get a little taste of what long lake is all about...peaceful!

Fun to disc or just hike. Beautiful view at the top.

Love this trail for snowshoeing. The hills give you a little challenge. The river is so beautiful and peaceful

The trail is well-marked and easy to follow. I hiked in autumn and the fall colors were amazing! Very pretty. The only thing keeping me from rating this five stars was that there were so many bicyclists on the trail. I had to constantly watch ahead and behind. So, five stars as a biking trail, four stars for hiking.

very relaxing hike that you can easily make as short or as long as you would like it to be. I saw a fair amount of wild life in the trails and some very beautiful views, especially around the lake.

Loved it! Beautiful!! Great place for a relaxing walk in early September, perfect time of year.
Although I would have loved to walk/hike alone, I'd say this trail is stroller friendly. I pushed our "all-terrain" stroller with my two year old, which was somewhat bumpy from tree roots and a bit of a challenge up small hills. Besides that, it definitely was worth the experience of a nature adventure with my daughter, both of us very much enjoyed it together.

This was our first ever singletrack and we had a blast! Staying at Timber Ridge RV Park makes access easy. We will ride more over the next two weeks.

A really nice walk in the woods quite steep and strenuous at parts at flat and easy and others. It is poorly marked and I had to use my trail guide from AllTrails to make sure I was on the right path but a beautiful area

Very simple trail with a decent amount of options as far as routes go. Was able to go back a few times and not take the same route. Dogs love it!

Again, kayaking. I've done the whole entire (paddleable) river but it'll take you longer than you think 11 miles would take....like an entire summer's day! An excellent way to spend it, but I think it's much more fun to break it up into chunks. Love this river, with its natural scenery, beautiful houses and the fun of paddling thru downtown TC right into West Bay! A word of caution, there are some fun class II rapids along the way so be sure you're prepared to rescue yourself/others along the way. Also, I would recommend taking out at the tubes that run under South Airport Rd.....unless you don't mind tons of spiders (I learned the hard way)!

snowshoeing

This is a great trail if you live nearby. Easy walking trail & snowshoeing. Yes, this is a trail where many dogs are walked but avoid them by going weekdays when most dog owners are working. Walk or run the hilly trail to m-72. It's an oasis in the city, where you'll often see deer grazing.

Rode the singletrack. Nice flow to the ride. Not overly complicated. Some tight, curvy sections with lots of trees right on the trail, primarily between markers 4 and 6, that made for some interesting navigation. A couple of beach spots and some sand in the turns to pay attention to.

It was beautiful. We saw some wildflowers and admired the Boardman River. The only con was that I was left for wanting more! So that was a good thing! We did this whole hike in an hour and A quarter.

Essentially a dog park. Despite plenty of signage, of the 12+ dogs we encountered, only ours was on a leash. Had one chump argue it was appropriate for his to be unleashed because the dog was generally friendly, even after it charged us. Won't be back.
