I would highly recommend starting this trail from lake of the clouds. It reaches some nice bluffs and some great view of the park. At that point I would turn around. After that it is nothing but woods for about 7 miles until it reaches up with Lake Superior trail. Overall some cool views but also some very boring parts for a long distance.

We hiked this trail the past week and it was not that enjoyable. Plenty of muddy sections and stays in the woods for the most part. The view of lake superior were cool but stayed about the same the entire time. Doing the whole hike was pretty brutal and I would not repeat this tail. It also took us a very long time to finish this and carp river trail back to lake of the clouds.

Peaceful walk this morning. The river is soft ,gentle and pleasing along this trail . The quotes posted from a miner from 1800’s also adds character to the hike . It was quiet and were able to cool our feet a couple times in the cool water . Loved it.

Budget more time than expected- trail is very muddy and obstacles i.e. fallen trees are very prevalent. Second half is nice when hiking along Lake Superior, but beginning portion is standard forest.

Great trail! Secluded with nice views of Big Carp River/Lake of the Clouds. Took

It’s logging road that goes nowhere. Full of dear flys.

Beautiful place to visit in the fall. Easy hike.

One of my favorite trails in the park. Great views of the river and dense forest. Was pretty muddy in sections once you come off the river, but should be better the later you go in the year. All of the campsites along this trail are great so you really can't go wrong. Already planning my trip back.

The most beautiful trail in the park. If there's one thing you do in the Porkies, it has to be the Escarpment. Especially beautiful during sunrise and sunset over the Lake of the Clouds. You won't be disappointed!

The Lake Superior Trail is wonderful once you get past the down trees and excess mud the first several miles. Definitely slowed us down but was oh-so worth it once we reached the shoreline and our campsite. Check with rangers before you leave to see the condition of trails. Would've made a big difference for us!

Much better trail than the description describes!! Much of the trail is along a creek with beautiful small waterfalls and gorgeous rock outcroppings. One picturesque background after another. Pictures can’t do it justice honestly!! We were amazed!! Highly recommend this trail!! Short and VERY SWEET!

Fantastic views the whole trail! I would say it’s on the harder side of moderate but totally worth it!

Great hike. Beautiful inland views with large nature trees. As with any of the trials here in the porcupine mountains. Get used to tree roots and mud puddles

This can be a very difficult hike especially when it's the trial you use to start off. Your pack is the heaviest and your body has to right away get used to tough uphill and downhill. Great hike though

Love this loop. Stayed on this trial several times. The hike is quite hard going uphill sometimes, especially if it's early in your trip and your backpack is heaviest. But beautiful views and river crossings. Highly recommend if you don't mind getting a little muddy.

Amazing hike with Fall leaves changing. Beautiful, well maintained trail through the forest. We got a late start so had to head back early when it got dark, lots of rocks and roots to trip you up in the dark.

Trail was very beautiful! Short and sweet! Personally, I would rate the trail as easy. We experienced a bit of mud, so you may want some good shoes!

Rocky with often difficult footing for the first 1.5 miles all down hill, from there it's easy with great views of the shoreline. Many campsites along the trail and if you can definitely stick around for a sunset.

I don't think I would call this trail moderate, there is a very difficult uphill from the trailhead on hwy 107 to the bluffs, but it is worth every step and I will be returning in a couple weeks for the fall colors peak. There are a couple campsites along the bluffs that would be amazing to stay at, but if a campground is more your speed, Union Bay has great facilities.

We had a great time on this trail. Great views as you leave the Lake of the Clouds scenic outlook and beautiful falls as you near the mouth of the Big Carp.

Fairly easy trail that hugs the Superior coastline in a few places before opening out to some outstanding campsites with views. Can't miss that sunset.

Fantastic hike along the rocky escarpment that separates Lake of the Clouds and Lake Superior. Fantastic views of Lake of the Clouds. Heavy crowds near western end, but crowds thin as you go east. Quite a bit of up-and-down, so on the harder side of moderate. Mostly shaded but some sunny areas along the cliffs. Overall, best day-hike in the Porkies.

We started from the eastern end in the morning putting the sun at our backs. A long steady uphill to start with takes you to views that get better and better at every turn. Not at all crowded at that end on A Friday in late July, although there were plenty of people at the western end overlook.

Awesome views that are probably the best in Michigan.

Interesting interpretive trail that teaches you about the copper mining that occurred in the area in the 1800's. Beautiful well marked trail following a river.

Unmatched beauty. My only regret is living so far away.
