Great for hiking! Never seen a waterfall though

An absolutely beautiful day hike.

Very well marked trail, would definitely come back. Confused as to why this is rated easy and the loop trail (unmarked) is rated moderate, I’d say the opposite is true! Not a good hike if trail is wet, you will slip on the hills. 4/7/18

Starts at park entrance near soccer fields, as opposed to all the other trails that start at Stubnitz Center and are very well marked. This Outer Loop Trail is not marked and is kind of boring, loops around disc golf course. No idea why it is ranked moderate. Does take you along the river, and I did see several small groups of deer, but not a trail I’d wander again. Recommend Red Trail at Heritage Park, pick up at Stubnitz Center Markers 1-11. Runs concurrent with Orange Trail Markers 1-33 if you want a longer hike (8 miles for Orange Trail, Red Trail is 3 miles). 4/8/2018

Love the trails! Very beautiful/peaceful. Also great trails for a dog

The Matthaei Garden Trail is a 2-mile pedestrian road through a lightly wooded area. The path was built in 2017, I believe, and is 6-foot or 8-foot wide asphalt the entire way, with several wooden bridges over tiny streams. Parking at Matthaei and walking the entire thing is a 4-mile trip. My low rating is because I'm not a fan of asphalt or flat paths, especially given the other trails available at Matthaei. If you like asphalt paths through trees, you'll probably enjoy this one. If you want to check your GPS, they have markers every 1/4 mile.

Beautiful paved trail that follows the flat river most of the way. Our favorite starting point, where we park the car is Jackson’s Landing, and you can head either way as the trail is a loop. Baldwin Lake community is a part of the loop and is our favorite section of the trail! Early morning or sunsets!

Did this hike with my son and we loved it! Very easy trail with many nice placards to read as well as many scenic resting spots with benches.

Easy short walk—probably better to visit in the late spring or summer. In March there was little to see other than the small pond, which had a few ducks. Still, great little walk for kids and conveniently close.

Really enjoyed this hike. Nice wide trails that were well marked. Benches along the way if you need a break. The only thing I didn’t like personally was a few trails had sand. I prefer a firm hiking trail.

Nice hiking trails. The nature center was enjoyed by young and old.

Very nice, short secluded hike in the city.

Gorgeous, tons of birds to see, as well as beavers and muskrats.

Trails are well-marked with lots of little paths down to the water's edge. Short and easy, but there's lots to see.

This is a tranquil unmarked route through a small network of wooded trails on dunes with a peek at Lake Michigan. The wildflowers in April are amazing. The ticks can be fierce, while mosquitoes and poison ivy are seasonal. In the summer, there is a parking fee.

My husband and I hiked this trail a few summers back. We drove from Iowa and got there around 1AM to hike in and set up camp. It was quite an adventure. The best part was hearing the lake as we got close. It was a beautiful sight to wake up to the next morning!

Very nice hike around the area. Lots of little trails to discover. A little muddy for this time of the year, but what is a fun hike without any?

Great afternoon hike. Will do it again in the spring.

I have done this trail twice solo. This was the first trail I had ever hiked. It is awesome, rugged enough to get a great workout and scenery was beautiful.

Nice single track, decent elevation and little traffic. Many loops to accumulate miles.

A nice remote spot to check out. There can be lots of people on a nice weekend day, but if you leave the main trail or head down the beach, you can get away from it all.

Great for hiking with dogs. Add 3+ miles to take the Sand Creek Hike Loop . Trails are marked well. Easy to follow. The Sand Creek loop is more narrow in places. Think twice before hiking here directly after a large rainstorm; river bottoms area becomes washed out. Nice place to see and hear woodpeckers; best area in West MI to see a carpet of trillium and other wildflowers in the spring.

This is one of my favorite trails for running, and it's also a local favorite for walking and hiking. During winter/spring the trail ices over very quickly so please use caution during those times. There are many additional trails in Fitzgerald Park for more mileage. I would like to note that rock climbing is actually done across the river at Oak Park, there are no rock climbing routes on this side of the river.

This was an awesome hike! There was a sand dune and teepees everywhere. The trails were winding and there were some very steep hills. It was beautiful. Perfect for a hike with the whole family!
