Hiking with Holly. Crazy winds so just stuck to the wooded trail area. Beautiful in the woods.

Really nice but a little tough in the snow and windy cold. About half the trail is in the dunes and half in the woods.

Always one of my favorite trails at sleeping bear. Take the trail from the back end for a better view of Lake Michigan.

So beautiful in the fall! Colors should be peaking soon!

Sand sand sand. You hike in sand the whole way, but it’s worth it to see this amazing place. Make sure you are prepared and you’ll have a great time.

Great trail. My husband and I rarely go hiking, but we enjoyed the trail. The trail is a mixture of pebble, sand, and dirt. The trail is wide and takes you uphill to two great lookouts. We rarely hike and had very little difficulty getting up and finishing the trails. Very pretty in the fall! Would definitely recommend this trail.

By far my favorite place in Michigan. I usually bring my hiking backpack and stay here for the entire day. As others have said: bring water and sun protection. It’s outstanding exercise and can exhaust you quickly. Be cautious about climbing down the dunes to the lake when you’re at the top, because it can take hours to get back up. Finally, it can be slightly windy which may result in sand stinging you in the face. What I love the most is the amount of open space. It’s easy to go off trail and just wander off and enjoy the scenery. The view of Lake Michigan is well worth the effort and energy. The water is very colorful and also great for swimming in or even just cooling your feet off.

excellent view at top. good exercise, interesting Flora and fauna. a++++++++

Nice hike. Very hilly, so you will get your exercise. Takes you through a couple different wooded environments. Two great look-outs along the way. Each junction in the trail in well marked and numbered, so you won't accidentally lose your way by taking a longer leg. You can make a short or long loop of it. There is a LOT of blown over trees and dense shrubby successional / recovery growth along many parts of the trail that are not only spooky (it's advised you do not use the trail during strong winds), but also make it impossible to explore off trail or have any sort of view beyond the flanking shrubs. It is also hot and sunny along these areas because there is no tree cover. But there are places along that trail that open up into good beech maple birch forest where you can look for mushrooms and whatnot. There are also tons of black raspberry bushes all along the trail if you want a snack. We hiked it at the end of September and there were zero mosquitos! Many goldenrods and asters flowering along the path, but not much else as far as blooms. We saw a pair of bald eagles soaring the updrafts from the lake. And many different types mushrooms. Overall, my husband and I had a beautiful time. We are in our early 30s and fairly fit, but it's not a difficult trail if your knees are in good shape. It took us a few hours to complete the short loop and go out and back to the Glen Lake overlook; but we get distracted by flora / fauna / fungus and walk slowly.

Lovely hike. It was a cool sept day when we did it but can imagine how on a hot day it could be a bit unbearable. Took us about 1:45 total—we were cutting it close to catch a ferry in Leland so didn’t have time to spend once we got to the lake! I don’t know if I would call this hard...lots of kids on the path. But lots of ups and downs and I can see how water would be an issue on hot days.

This island had some terrific views ,but the mosquitoes were insane. It was a major test of will power to complete the trail. Bring bug spray and protection ,and you should be fine.

There are 2 Vista points on easy trail only. There is no view on the Intermediate and Advanced trail. Started out from easy part of trail Lookout Island then to Big Glenn (2.2mi). From there we went off the trail going down until we reached the intermediate trail (0.3mi) took a left and completed the intermediate loop (0.9mi) from that point. After that we got on and finished the advanced trail as well (2.5mi). To finish all 3 loops (6mi) it took us about 3hrs. The trail was very peaceful (lightly trafficed) even on a beautiful Sunday of a long weekend.

The trail was short and good views however there are better angles of the shoreline along bear dunes. + bathroom + dog friendly . Very well shaded

This hike is great for hiking and trail running. The overlooks make you forget the giant hills. Not many tourists know about this hike, so the trail is pretty quiet.

First part of trail is sand in the middle of the forrest. Not natural. quiet trail in the morning.

Great trail and epic view at the top! I would rate six stars if I could.

I loved this trail! The overlooks are beautiful, make sure to do them both! The trials were well marked and shaded!

The trail was very well marked, and the views were incredible. Some points you would find yourself in a long stretch of just dunes, which was difficult and very hard uphill! We knew what we were getting into and still have a hard time here and there. Also don’t let the name “point” fool ya, there was never an actual point to get to. It was worth it, but I won’t go out of my way to do it again!

Had a great hike here at the end of July, even with the mosquitoes. Most of the island and all of the trail pictured in the map is flat, but if you are hiking to the dunes on the western side, there’s a steep hill to get up to the dunes.

Phenomenal trail system! This was my first time hiking this trail. I hiked it with a buddy, and we did the advanced trail, and went to both lookouts. Trail is super maintained, well kept, and easy to navigate. I would recommend taking a picture of the trail map, just as a reference guide for the trail system. We didn’t see a single person on the entire trail. Views were excellent, and we got a nice sweat on the inclines!
