Awesome trail with something for everyone. Really neat wooded nature section with pretty side trails. Saw Eastern Grey Squirrels, Tree Swallows, Northern Flickers, Bluejays, possibly a Great Crested Flycatcher, and more. In addition to the nature area, this trail passes a half pipe and bike jump course, basketball courts/baseball diamond, playgrounds, large trees, and more. Really diverse and always something to see. So glad I keep finding these cool places in the middle of urban/neighborhood areas. Nice thing about the mile loop is that you can keep track of your miles manually every time you "pass go". Unfortunately you do not also get $200. Haha! Had a great time.

Flat an easy run. Views of Detroit river were pleasing.

I mean, it’s located in the city, so you can’t complain too much. I suggest sticking close to the water edge and find the foot trails through the tall grasses.

All flat land, beautiful views of the surrounding waters. Went mid afternoon (1:30 pm EST), where the high sun really baked us. lots of branching paths leading to areas of lagoon to launch kayak from, or just chill out on the bank.

Absolutely gorgeous. Surrounded entirely by water with multiple hidden away cozy places to read.

Belle Isle is a superb getaway inside Detroit. Except for the closing of one end of the island for a month each year for the Grand Prix and my impatience waiting as the state eventually repairs and renovates all aspects of the park, most of the island is a great set of fields, gathering places, views of Detroit and Windsor, space for walks/jogs/bike rides, and occasional planned activities. The museum fills a nice hour, and the greenhouse and garden are maintained beautifully. The fountain and casino building are great for photos. The walk out to the lighthouse and on the trails across the little bridge is pretty, pleasant, and excellent for a lazy picnic or nap with a book. Watch the sunset, watch the variety of people, and watch the big container ships as you escape the hubbub of the city for a while.

I love the Riverfront — the cityscape of downtown, the view (and sometimes sounds) of Canada, the river with is otters and ice and ships, and the small landscapes along the walk (benches, gardens, a library box, harbors, a hill). The proximity to Belle Isle, Atwater Brewery, and festivals/shows at the various facilities along the way are bonuses. Don’t be confused; this isn’t a backpacker’s hike. But it’s a wonderful space for a walk or a run among people in the city while not surrounded by buildings and cars.

Nice escape from the concrete jungle. I️ like to combine this hike with a bike loop around the island and end with a dip in the river.

Scenic and a relatively easy route. Good for a relaxing walk in the summer.

We love this route. We are frequent visitors of Belle Isle and since the State of Michigan is now in charge, it is an amazing place. Great place to hike with dogs and let them swim. (This is a DOG FRIENDLY trail and state park).

Talk about a relaxing time. my wife and I walked this trail during the Jazz Festival and fell in love with it. You can't beat the nice breeze coming off the river. Starting with the view of the Renaissance and through a man made nature trail you work your way to a rest area with a merry-go-round. Well I won't tell the rest. But I will tell you this. it's worth the drive.

The Detroit Riverfront trail is a great way to take in both the sights of the river, with Canada not so far away, and the city itself as it abuts right up to the trail. There are various plazas, which have public art and fountains (such as those at GM Plaza) which act as gathering spots for those taking breaks while walking the trail or just looking for nice spot by the river. Other fun sights include a wetlands and light house. All this combines together to make for a perfect spot to take a leisurely walk that is urban yet not urban. I know there are plans to extend the riverwalk, so hopefully that will come to fruition! For now, it is best to enjoy what has been accomplished.
