The Spring lake trail and other connecting trails at Independence Oaks County park are the steepest and longest hill that I have found in South East Michigan. I use these trails to prepare for my summer Colorado hikes. The ground drains well and the tails are in good shape even after rains. The trails are wide a smooth and well maintained. This park is also loaded with wild life. In addition to the typical deer, Beaver are active in the park. For bird watchers, I have seen red headed and Pilated wood peckers. Sand Hill cranes like the Marshy area on the South East side of the lake.
