One of the most beautiful hikes you’ll find in northern Michigan. This is a very easy hike considering you’ll be 366 feet above the stunning waters of Lake Michigan. Make sure to pack your camera or GoPro because you won’t find many better places to get photos of the great outdoors in Michigan.

Easy walking most of the way. Short climb up the back of the dunes to reach lake Michigan. Beautiful view at the end. Nice spot to chill and take pics on top of the dunes.

This is a great place no matter what time of year you visit. Just the other day I saw several people enjoying a hike with snowshoes, and in the summer its a perfect place for a walk or run and that great view of Lake Michigan from Old Baldy. The trip down Old Baldy is always a fun one, but even those in decent shape will take some time and effort to get back up to the top, and the beach below is rockier than more easily accessible areas to the north.

It's not the most scenic trails, as you spend most of your time winding through forests that block any overlooks of the surrounding land, but it's easy to follow. The hills and curves make for a challenging trail run, but watch out for mountain bikers, as there is only room on the trail for single file.

Gorgeous! You hike through meadows and forest and then come to a beautiful sandy path that leads to a couple different destinations. Only issue was the trail had very long grass/weeds in spots. Probably best to wear pants in the summer.

If you go with a group there’s a lesser known option. We enjoy running down to the beach but we split up. Some of us will climb up the dune but some prefer the hike on the lake to Watervale. It’s a long walk but beautiful and worth the time. The trail at Watervale is wide and easy to find when you get there and and an easy place for the other half of your group to pick you up once they get back to the car.

This is one of our favorite trails. In addition to the forest hike (we like the birds) the views of the water and coastline are some of the best. There is a lesser known option for groups. You can run down to the beach but we split up. Some like the climb back up but some enjoy to hike the shoreline to Watervale on Lower Herring Lake which is just as adventurous. It’s a long walk, take shoes that you don’t mind getting wet. You will have the lake entirely to yourselves. When you get to Watervale you will see the trail going from the beach to the road. It’s an easy place for the other part of your group to pick you up once they get to the car.
