The Michigan Air Line is a new paved rail-to-trail that opened in October 2019 for hikers and bicycling. Its east end connects to the West Bloomfield Trail. Some very short sections near road crossings and at the Gunnar Mettala trailhead may be packed gravel. The slope is mostly gentle to moderately steep and estimated to range from -7% (downhill) to 7% (uphill) grade. There may not be ADA-compliant car parking spots at the large unpaved Gunnar Mettala trailhead lot.Show more

There are several road crossings along the way. Cross safely. There are occasional benches for a rest. Enjoy! Accessibility: This packed gravel, cement, wooden boardwalk/bridge and asphalt trail is estimated to typically be at least 6 feet wide. There are edge barriers and handrails along the bridge sections. There is often a painted center dividing line along the path. The slope is estimated to be mostly gentle. There may not be designated wheelchair-accessible parking spaces with access aisles at the trailhead. There are two designated wheelchair-accessible parking spaces with a shared access aisle at the parking lot marked with a waypoint off of Arrowhead Road in West Bloomfield.Show more

Paved - easy for biking, wheelchair access, strollers, etc. Pretty busy but easy to keep distance from others. You can see turkeys and deer often. There are two trailheads w/parking - one at Wing & 60th, and one at 52nd and Stauffer (where there is a seasonal bathroom). The trail runs alongside several farms but you do not encroach on private property. Accessibility: The trail surface is paved asphalt and typically at least six feet wide. The estimated grade is mostly gentle (all 5% or less) so will likely be traversable for most wheelchair/mobility equipment or stroller users.Show more
