South Deerfield, Massachusetts Map

an easy, but exciting trail. you are well rewarded for the small amount of effort you have to put in

Beautiful trail, great views. Nice place for a picnic lunch at the top overlooking bucolic New England countryside.

Amazing view

Perfect for hiking with family and friends! There’s a beautiful view up top and families with children or elders can drive up to enjoy the view as well! You can even see U.Mass from the top 

Great lunchtime hike!

definitely not a hard hike. low side of moderate, work up a sweat on some areas. hour and a half to do the 3 mile trail. great view

Nice alternative to hiking the trails of sugarloaf with the tower on top. I didn’t see anyone out hiking so it was much more peaceful and the multiple cris crossing colored trails aren’t a straight up ascent. All of the different ways up are much more gradual. The x spot on trail map is where there’s a nice view! Make sure to check that out. My only complaint was I got confused a few times because the red blue and yellow markers weren’t super consistent always, definitely think the trails need need to be better marked as a few times I ended up off trail and had to turn around.

Great hike. You can go the paved road or take one of the well marked trails through the woods.

Great! Took my five year old and one year old. It was tough at times, but we managed to go down and back up the blue trail.

fun, short hike. good views from the top. we climbed the steeper part and went down the longer, gentler one. it's only a 15-20 minute strenuous hike up to the top. there are also different branches in the trail you could avail to get to the summit.the fun part is that you could, after visiting the south, continue to the north sugarloaf mountain!

I love the convenience of having a descent hill in my area, I'll run from my house to the base of mt. Sugarloaf and can be up and back in less than an hour on a slow day. completely shaded until you get to the top, making it great for my dog and myself on a sunny day. awesome sunrise/sunset views, allows you to see great views of Deerfield, Sunderland, and Amherst. water is also available at the top as long as you are going during "open" hours, but if you are an early riser or late owl I would suggest bringing your own if you or your dog wants water during the trip.
