I’ve never seen bug swarms as persistent and substantial as the ones I’ve found here. I had bug spray all over me - and even applied more after I realized I had a cloud of mosquitoes around me, but that had literally zero effect on them. I tried enduring it for a little while, but they wouldn’t desist, so I had to turn around and go home. The trail is beautiful and would be absolutely pleasant were it not for the overwhelming swarms of bugs.

There's a nice paved and gravel road that goes a pretty good distance. There's also some really easy mountain biking trails, and some pretty technical sections of the trail as well. I'm just a beginner but I would definitely recommend this trail and this area to get started and build your confidence.

Tried some new loops for my trail run with great success! Went later in the day for cooler temps, but had to have a generous portion of bug spray for the run.

More of a question rather than review.... Is this section permanently locked up now ?? Numerous times in the area and the gates have always been locked I've been looking forward to checking it out

Nice option for a walk along the river, some interesting history, and Asian restaurants near the center

Had a great hike, but the mud was a bit of a hassle given the recent rain. Always willing to return here for a great walk in the woods though...

Great afternoon walk/hike in early spring. The trails are not really marked at all, it’s very easy to lose track of the trail. It was very helpful having the gps on phone. Not crowded so it made for a nice quiet afternoon to get some exercise - UNTIL we ran into a group of 4 on dirt bikes & 4 wheelers. Not allowed in the forest.....ridiculous!

Ugly path. At least on the initial section I ran on.

Great hike for the whole family. Easily traversed with little to no elevation across a fairly flat terrain. Great views of the pond and other wetland areas as you make your way through the reserve. Some trails that branch off the wider ones appear to be used heavily as mountain biking trails. Probably best to avoid those when walking in a group or with dogs. Otherwise fabulous spot that we will continue to go to again and again.

Went here for my first trail run in a very, very long time. I've been walking these trails for years now having grown up in the area. I love the scenery and the elevation isn't too drastic either which makes for a pleasant trail running experience. It was still a bit rough for me being my first run in some time, but I'm looking forward to trying out some of the other trails here as well.

It was closed because if high water level, but the views were beautiful and unique.

The Northern Canal Walkway is a half-mile stretch of easy hiking along the Merrimack River. The trail offers views of the river and adjacent canal and can be accessed from May 15 to October 15. The trail is moderately used and kid and dog friendly. The walkway closes when water levels are too high, so it is advisable to contact the National Park station prior to planning a trip.

it was nice, not as much as scenery as I was hoping. great trails for walking.
