I walked this trail mid morning with my wife and three girls (8, 10,12). This was an easy walk, especially if you stay on the main trail. There is a box that usually has maps at the start of the trail. Plenty of places to stop and enjoy the peacefulness. There is a seasonal bathroom about half way, which can be good for kids. At the top you come Indian Rock, a nice little piece of history and great views of the marsh from the top.
The trail back is pleasant, and spots you step out a little for some great views and/or photos. The tide was lower and there was a small trail off to the right (not on the map), and only accessible when the tide is down, that lead down onto the edge of the marsh. We walked that right along until you get to where it heads back up the hill through some tall (6ft+) grass and in through some tall shrubs before heading up the hill to the side of the last parking lot. We continued down the main trail until the finish at the Penninman House.

No dogs = lame

The Marsh portion is serene and beautiful. The path that continues to the beach is riddled with bugs and mosquitos. Bring bug spray!!

Great trail! However dogs are not allowed on this specific trail.

Nice boardwalk finished winter 2017/ spring 2018, but some spots soft. TONS of poison ivy, even starting to grow up through the boardwalk. Stick to the center of the boardwalk to avoid accidentally brushing up against the poison ivy. Beautiful scenery

This route leads you down a single path trail through the woods or you can opt for the wider paved bike path that runs parallel to the trail. At the end of this route is Coast Guard Beach with a weathered house and incredible views of the ocean. Keep an eye on the interactive map so you don’t turn the wrong way at intersecting paths.

Great hike from Salt Pond Visitor Center to Coast Guard Beach. The path through the woods is well marked and worn. Between 4-5 miles and very relaxing.

Check the tide chart before you go; you can get stuck if you go out before high tide. This is a beautiful, scenic walk from the visitor center (great for kids and adults) that has a wooden plank boardwalk out to the bay. During Summer the boardwalk is surrounded by beautiful, lush green sea grass. At low tide and sunset there will be small tidal pools that fill up and reflect the sunset colors which are fun to walk around. Be prepared for green head flies. You may see some turtles as well.

Super easy with kids and pretty views

Very nice stroll along estuary. Red Maple Swamp trail is out: no walkway through swamp; under repair for 4 years. Walk was scenic and worth the effort. Good birding area.

Quick and easy trail from the salt pond out to the beach was about 15-20min bike ride on the trail. We had age ranges from 8-56 years old varying levels on being in shape and out of shape. Has a couple of hills to climb and cruise down. Getting to the beach is very cool with not too many people there where you can see seals and some historical coast guard buildings. Great views as well.

I had bad luck bird-wise on the afternoon I went, but the boardwalk is beautiful. Beware that the entrance described in the directions is no longer open and it's not possible to make a loop. To access the boardwalk, either approach from the Penniman House or walk the paved trail to the Sharpening stone, continue on the trail to the right and make another right into the swamp area.

Great easy walk. I'd highly suggest walking to where it meets the ocean. Watch out for the free head flies though- they were brutal.

This is an absolutely gorgeous trail. It is easy, and the variety between the ponds, woods, and Coast Guard Beach are amazing. Just use your bug spray!

Great hike with the kids down to Coast Guard Beach!

The Wellfleet Audubon offers a modern and interesting visitor center and a variety of mostly level treks covering pretty much the whole sanctuary. Lots of woods, a freshwater mini-river which feeds into the marsh, and a boardwalk leading to an outer Sanctuary beach (however, at high tide the boardwalk is submerged). The visitor center posts the times of high tide, so you can plan to avoid being stranded.

This series of trails can take you by foot or bike from the Eastham Salt Pond National Seashore Visitors Center all the way to the ocean at Coast Guard Beach. It is a classic and excellent in woods and waterscapes

A very beautiful stroll along a well maintained trail/path. I enjoyed walking on the boardwalk along the path.
