I would recommend this trail. Very easy. To make it a little more of a challenge look for the church off the path, you’ll get an elevation gain and more of a workout. Nice views and sounds along the running water.

Parking lot is small so if going with a group try to fit into one car. trail starts down the driveway (that you can't block) right past a private residence. it is muddy at times in the beginning but mostly paved and should be marked as easy at least up to the dam. The ruins are cool and this is a great hike for little kids!

I enjoyed the trail. With most of the leaves fallen, the view of the water was lovely. I would rate this as easy though. It was mostly paved and level. Nice walk with pets or children.

First 2 miles or so are paved. Trail rarely marked.

Really aesthetic hike. But definitely should be ranked as easy

The old churches make this trail especially interesting. There was a little muddy patch near the beginning, but it’s easy to get around.

A lovely walk along the Patapsco River that is perfect for a fall or spring afternoon outing. The scenery is pleasant. The trail is well marked and most easy to manage. However, the “trail” is better classified as an old road bed and, in my view, following it does not constitute a hike.

If this is moderate I’d hate to see hard!! Excellent trail

Hiked with my dog on 9/15/19. This is an extremely easy trail to walk on. it should NOT be rated as moderate. trail varies between paved path and dirt/rocks. Really nice it runs right next to the river the whole time. can't get enough of the river sounds

In order to get from the parking to the start of the trail you have to walk down the road where you see private property signs. The owner also placed a sign that says keep left but the start of the trail is just after the house. There is a gate and on the other side of the gate is the trail head sign with info.

@Kristie Villarroel, Thank you for your description of the trailhead and how it picked up behind the family home that is situated there. It was most helpful this past weekend when my son and I took his two children on an adventure. We had an amazingly beautiful day for hiking along the Patapsco River considering it is August. Some of the footpaths down to the waters edge were a little overgrown but nothing was impassible. We hiked in to the dam and back out and had a wonderful time. The grandkids were able to see a snake, some geese playing in the river, Alligator Rock, and the Pentecostal church before getting to the dam. There were also all kinds of butterflies and dragon flies and a couple little wooly caterpillars too.

The trail is straight past the main gate stay to the right around the drive and past the house till you go around the 2nd fence. The trail marker sign is very over grown but the hike I would say is more easy to the damn some moderate of hiking to the old church ruins which no trail is listed on this app. You will see Two yellow dots if you walk down past those dots you will see an overturned trailer on your right in the river the trail to those dots will be on your right. The damn is very beautiful and the ruins looked neat check out the artwork on the back.

Trail running is listed for this trail, but it is more geared for hiking in my opinion. The course is described as “out & back”, but it has loop character, and the estimated elevation gain may be off. I found it to be less than what is stated. Regarding the loop, in the clockwise direction I went, about 95% of the trail is unmarked, and the other 5% is marked in a way that makes no sense, until the very end of the loop when it is obvious which way to go. There are also parts that are overgrown. Finally, you need bug spray as there are tons of insects and bugs. This trail is a workout...even for hiking. My recording is posted. I loved the hidden treasures on this trail. It’s a bit hard to find. Travel down the road that says no trespassing, continue passed the house, and the trail begins. Will be coming back! Completely flat trail.

great views, easy hike!

The abandoned old churches on this trail make it really something special.

Pretty with a great history.

This trail was awesome! Lots of off trail opportunities and a beautiful waterfall at the end. It’s a paved trail which i feel takes away from nature but still beautiful all the same

I actually LOVED this trail... until my car was broken into at the trailhead! I haven’t been back since then just because of that. The day it happened (in 2015, so a while now), a woman who was at the trailhead told me she had also had her car broken into there at a different time. I would give this 5 stars if not for that. I love the river views, old ruins, and general vibe of the trail.

Nice for more seasoned hikers. Trail is hilly and rocky but doable for hikers and dogs. We saw evidence of horses as well. Pretty views of the river.
