Hancock, Maryland Map

Wonderful bike trail and beautiful scenery! It's good to bring bug spray. On the hotter days, as soon as you stop to take a rest, the nats start attacking.

Just resurfaced, smooth sailing

Great paved rail trail that's actually 22 miles long point to point with Hancock being in the middle. It mirrors the C&O towpath and has access points back and forth to it as well. We used it as a training trail for distance runs for doing the GAP. I hope that they finish the expansion soon.

It was a nice break from the towpath.

I completed a 2.5 hour walk/jog on the Western MD Rail Trail about a week ago. It was very lovely trail. I mainly explored the area & took in nature and history about the trail. Many pretty views (off paved trail)!!!
Primarily for biking to view more of the area, but the hike was nice. The trail has a paved road and side trail that appears to be where train tracks use to be. Great trail. Will go back with my bike next time! ;)

Easy flat paved, for a light rest day.

Wonderful trail. Smooth pavement. The western half is prettiest. Follows along the canal in a nice canopy of woods. The eastern half from Big Pool to Hancock is. Ice. Has some good views of the water. But several miles of it is so close to
Route 70 that it is noisy with traffic.

Love this trail! Wish the tree huggers that determined the endangered bats would be bothered by humans and cyclists in the tunnel would have fallen in the Potomac so the trail could have been finished.

This trail was awesome! It is paved, flat, shaded, and scenic. As a beginning cyclist you couldn't ask for more! I drove 1 1/2 hours to get here, and it was worth it! There seemed to be an unpaved mountain bike trail on the other side, if you prefer that. Some enterprising soul was selling cold water by the side of the trail. There was a farmhouse along a bit of the trail around mile marker 16. There was a cooler and honor jar on a table by the side 9f the trail. Bathrooms few and far between. I used a port-a-potty in the parking area at the end of the trail, around mile marker 21.

Another nice one. Maybe I need to learn nordic skiing and come back in the snow.

Loved it. Nice bike trail.

Great riding if you are not in the mood for dodging people. This trail has lots of passing room and has light traffic even on beautiful days.
