Went into the Visitor Center and talked to an extremely knowledgeable volunteer that explained the trails and terrain involved to walk the battlefields. I went upstairs to go through the museum to get some background of the Civil War so I would have better understanding of what I saw. The museum was wonderful The first trail was the Junction Trail that led from the parking lot just along the tree line. It was a very easy walk about a mile. The other one I did was the Thomas Farm trail that was approximately 2 miles that included the Ferry Loop down along the river. I would rate it a moderate hike up some small hills. I enjoyed it very much and thought the museum really added to my experience.

Trail not well marked and hard to follow especially with the snow. Icy. Lots of blow down.

Great little walk for anyone looking to get out for a short walk with a dog. Also great for anyone who needs an accessible path. They are working on a section of the boardwalk but it's quick to get around. Great shallow area to let dog in the river in the warm months.

This trail has parking in the middle. This makes it easy to do a quick walk for half or extend the session to the entire trail. It is paved. After a rain a couple spots hold water but it's not a big deal. It has never been busy the half dozen times I have walked it.

Moderate trail with one major down hill and uphill section. Several stream crossings and pond that was really beautiful. Only down side is we didnt see trail blaze markers on 2/3 of the hike

we enjoyed this trail. It was still covered in snow from an earlier snow storm which just added to the enjoyment.

Went hiking while there was about 5 inches of snow on the ground and it was beautiful. A little harder to hike but that was by our choice. Very well marked as well. There are many trails to choose from as well. We will be going back multiple times.

tough trail in winter, went south bound. would rather have gone northbound. creek near manor area was tricky to cross due to higher water levels. I'd say it was worth it if you want to knock out all the maryland backpacking trails
also, I used hiking upward's directions for this map
seems to be 27.9 miles according to them

I love hiking at Gambrill and the Yellow trail is especially beautiful in the spring when the mountain laurel is blooming and the ferns blanket each side of the trail in places. I deducted a star from my rating because I am a hiker and have had mountain bikers not notice I was on the trail. Last fall three bikers approached from behind pretty fast startling me, my dog, and the bikers! This was on the far north extension of the trail, so perhaps the bikers just weren't expecting a hiker! In addition to being biker aware, be bear aware! I was leading a hike there last Spring and came up behind a bear...heard him scamper away leaving only his fresh footprints in the mud! First time I had ever had a bear "almost" sighting in Maryland! Very exciting!

Like everyone else is saying, it is very rocky. Much more of a challenge on a mountain bike as opposed to hiking. I started at the lower trail head junction and biked up to the halfway mark, then on a bit further to Stoner Road (ha) then turned around and did the same first half of the yellow trail since I was racing darkness and knew what to expect - mostly slow & technical, not very flowy, good balance practice and some bigger rock features to play on. I feel like half the trail was a rock garden.

Love it! Just keep an eye out for the markers, you may miss one and have to backtrack if you're not vigilant.

Great trail, part of it isn’t marked but it all worked out well. Took kids and dogs. Will return for sure!

Nice moderate hike with great views at the top!

Great secluded views. Enjoyed the stream crossings and small waterfall.
Unmarked and slightly hard to follow.

Actually a nice hike. Using AllTrials is definitely needed because there are no blazes on this trail and it can get confusing.

Great workout for the distance. Lots of up and down. I'd definitely do it again.

Good trail and decent workout as well. Ran into several deer on my hike. Would do it again.

Rocky path. beautiful. good Sept canopy makes it nice to jog even in rain. about 4-5 fallen trees need to be cut from path.

Really good trail for kids and dogs. Really easy for beginners !!

Fun but definitely very rocky!

Easy, but 5.7 miles for us due to a wrong turn.

Love this trail. Slight workout but not overwhelming!

I did the entire trail in just over 9.5 hours. I parked my car near the Mt Zion Church at the northern end of the trail and started my hike at around 6 am. The AllTrails map help me navigate the entire trail. The trick is to remain on the blue blaze all the way through. The trail is well marked, however due to heavy rain, sections of the trail were full of water and had quite a few stream crossings which weren’t difficult. I did this trail in preparation for the presidential traverse hike.

Very pleasant surprise to find this well maintained, easy trail with river, woods and cows grazing within 10 minuets from Francis Scott Mall.

Beautiful!! Probably should’ve paid more attention to the “moderate” part for my first hike in many many years. BUT, I made it and I didn’t quit.

Great trail! Nice areas to go off the trail and sit by the river. Definitely take some Off spray because the mosquitoes are CRAZY!

Nice hike with some elevation climbs. It’s mostly forested with a few nice lookouts.
