Pretty easy trail, wonderful views of the river and even some spots that you can get down on the banks. I guess people can swim there since there were a lot of sandals and trash thrown around on some areas. We took the trail further down than what was on the app and found some nicer spots to view the river from. Overall my 6 year old had no problems. The way back up was a little rough since we were so hot but it wasn't to bad. I don't know how easy it would be if it had just rained as it seems like it would be hard due to the steepness of some areas so it probably gets slippery.

I agree with the other reviews that this trail is more on the moderate end, especially if you're caught in the rain while on it like me. I had to stop a couple of times to catch my breath going back up. Overall a good trail, just be prepared.

With all the rain day after day, and my park ( Patapsco -Avalon ) being closed, I come here as a poor weather option. I loop this area a few different ways which averages from 2.5 or 3 miles. It's all flat paved trails with a few earthen sections. It's nice for All people, pets and bikers. My only concern I have, being a senior, is committing to the loop in the rain. Not enough locations to take shelter if it got real bad out. I also think it's quite sunny in a few areas, so beware of the heat.

Great hike today!!!! Dam project is underway but does not limit this hike. Grist Mill section is paved. Carried the 2 year old in the pack down and up, a few rocky seconds but we would do it again. He had a great time throwing sticks in the river and walking through the tunnel. Beware of limited parking at the Hilltop entrance, it was full even on this chilly day (Sunday) and we'll be making a DNR "donation" for unauthorized parking. We will do this one again!

This was a nice trail. It is very short so we added a couple of trail sections to it from the Old ranger Trail (blue) which made it about 2 miles. Still short but it was nice. We have had a lot of rain lately so around the pond was really muddy, but that gave us the chance to spy various animal tracks, which is one reason we went to begin with. Overall nice little walk today.

It was alright

Just the best hike! Took four kids from 4-10 years old and everyone had a great hike. Beautiful to see spring rising

Great walk for family with strollers! Ample coverage from the sun, beautiful trail, easy hike. Perfect for walking with littles!

A beautiful paved trail that is a great option when the others are muddy or snowy. Had a great time.

It’s more of a moderate trail rather than easy because the walk back up is terrible

I nice walk. We take the grandson and our Golden Retriever as often as possible. The side trails are nice as well if you don't have small children with you.
Question - description above says the trail is 1.25 miles long but the out and back is 3.4 miles. I am an old guy and probably just don't understand new math but this just doesn't add up?? Does anyone know how long the trail is??

Nice easy trail. Like the open and shade it offers. Can get busy in the spring with bikes.

A nice walking trail if you want to get out for a stroll

Beautiful lake, very kind friendly

Not sure about the easy rating. Someone like myself who is out of shape found the hill back up a little tough. I may have come back up on a different trail though. Lol. Cool trail though. Water is awesome and the railroad tracks are cool.

Trail is solid and allows for access to see several types of terrain and very few other hikers on the trail.

There is one spot where markings for the trail under the power lines could be better. I wound up on a small adventure on an unnamed trail which led under the freeway and most of the way to Ellicott City.

It's a gem off the beaten path. I found it on accident while exploring old town Ellicott City. It was raining and still a pleasant hike thanks to the tree cover. Turns out a friend's parents live right off the trail and they recommended checking it out in the fall.

Great place for jogging, walking and fishing, etc.

Nice trail once you find it since the trailhead is not well marked. Need to go up staircase from parking lot off Ouella Ave.

Beautiful easy walk around the lake. Plenty of room for walkers, joggers, strollers, people with dogs. The only problem was today I was pushing my husband in the wheelchair, so a few of the hills were pretty tough. ALSO...they need to have a porta-potty somewhere on the trail. Half-way, maybe??

nothing really stood out, nothing to see, traffic noise, absence of nature... What a dud

Lovely lake with paved trail around it; only moderately crowded except on Saturday mornings when whole running groups come through. It's also a nice place just to take a picnic on the dock or on the picnic tables by the kids' playground. It's a good place to learn to kayak as the lake is a manageable size.

It was fun Sunday afternoon hiking with the family. It was our first hiking with our 3 years d daughter and she did awesome! She needed some assistance but most of the trail was wider and she was able to walk by herself! Will go back for sure!!

The Trolly Trail is a nearly straight, paved path and that's about a mile and a half one way. It's pretty underwhelming. Basically just a stretch of bike path. But, protip if you're hoping for a little adventure: stay off the path. Hike through the riverbed instead. You'll come across all kinds of interesting stuff. It's all traversable, with a little rock hopping and and some climbing. And in the spots where the riverbed diverges from the path--which happens a lot--you'll see some of the most beautiful and interesting formations. Definitely recommended for the riverbed adventure, not so much for the bike path.
